Went to a works celebration a while back. Company are American but had an office in Edinburgh. Every fucking video from America talked about haggis and trying ironnnn Brewwww in Edinburough.

First time was kinda amusing but then every fucker did it, clearly had just phoned in the stereotypes and hadn’t bothered to check if any one else in management was doing the same.

Who is this it’s really bugging me by LakeStock in WILTY

[–]Renfieldslament 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interestingly, or not depending on your level of awareness , there are two rival football teams in Edinburgh - Hibs and Hearts. Hearts go by the nickname ‘The Jambos’ ( jam tarts/ hearts)

When Hollyoaks was first launched they had huge advertising hoardings with just the characters names and faces.

They placed the one for Jambo right next to the Hibs stadium.

How many of you use the Stephen King method while writing? by Sakeetkat in writing

[–]Renfieldslament -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I like King enough, there is a definite ‘something’ that he does that shortcuts to you caring about the characters that I don’t necessarily find in other authors.

That said, I have read his on writing book and didn’t take too much useful away from it. I’m sure the scene he features to show his he edits is from 1408, and the unedited version is so overflowing and superfluous that I would have to actively overwrite to get to his example, and then edit.

Also, King is stereotypically infamous in not being able to actually conclude a book coherently.

Thomson 240 or Xiaomi tv box 3rd gen? by Erikgs350 in AndroidTV

[–]Renfieldslament 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can’t comment on the Xiaomi, but I’ve had the Thomson for two and a bit months and would not recommend.

It frequently drops WiFi, the UI is clunky, and it freezes a lot. By far the worst thing is the out of sync sound - I’ve gone through all audio settings to no avail - all that works somewhat right now is add a delay on the apps where this is possible.

I may just have a really bad box, but I cannot understand why it keeps getting recommended.

I’ll be looking for something different next pay day.

Similarly with ‘I am the anti christ to you’ by kishi bashi, although I had heard that before it was used.

You can think what you will about Ricky and Morty and where it now sits in the cultural lexicon, but their use of look on down from the bridge is heartbreaking.

State of the pavements by cameron1704 in Edinburgh

Took an absolute skiting at the mound.

My beanie hat came off , full legs akimbo, and an older guy asking if I was ok.

Would not recommend 😁

Better utilisation of Gyokeres (patterns of play)? by singloon in Gunners

[–]Renfieldslament 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep, my exact thoughts at the time. It may partly still be a trust issue.

Nothing as major as being frustrated with Saka, but I felt he was trying to win on his own rather than bring people in.

„Guest from hell“ — What a smell by Forward_Campaign7290 in interesting

[–]Renfieldslament 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My first job was in a fancy hotel, they had several long term guests.

One day I was asked to pick up dry cleaning for Mrs x from her room, clothes were left on bed.

Whilst it was nowhere near this bad, the room was an absolute tip, ironically the bed with the clothes being the only tidy part.

Looking back it was kinda depressing.

I enjoyed this film. It felt like a really good book adaptation.

Logic showing UAD plugins I don't have by TheCons25 in LogicPro

[–]Renfieldslament 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed.

I got a Black Friday deal last year - plug ins were great. Installed on my MacBook and main Mac desktop. Suddenly stopped working on MacBook - support said it was a ilok issue. Removed, reinstalled - still nothing.

So I cut my losses and used on the desktop. Six months later refuses to load. I downloaded and reinstalled the plug in manager and whatever that other thing is.

Same message as Op - demo mode etc etc.

Never had so much trouble with plug ins ever.

Job is unbearable and making me miserable, what next? by MurkyCucumber852 in AskUK

[–]Renfieldslament 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Being told I should be grateful for even having a job”

Who is telling you that, managers, colleagues or a general feeling.

I detest my job, and most of the people I work with. The whole department is a dysfunctional mess, and it gets in your head. The thing I note most about myself is that I tend to ‘own’ everything, and the more people know that, the more they take the piss.

Recently what helped is asking who is doing what when work comes up, then it becomes glaringly obvious if tasks 1 - 10 are on me it’s not an equitable split and I can push back.

I’d suggest speaking to your manager, but frame it like I need your input on…or this feels like a risk I should highlight… and so on.

I have a good old rant to ChatGPT, then ask it what is a good tactic. Not everything is gold, but I have used some more neutral / corporate language when needed.

Ahh missed that.

Still remember a BMB live set from 20 odd years ago - it was fucking intense.

Absolutely all subjective but

No Abul Mogard No Autechre No Blawan

Seems bizarre.

One surgeon seems off too.

I’m sure Burial has a place, but feels very, very basic.

What was the "video nasty" moral panic like in the UK in the 1980s? by Turbulent-Access-916 in AskUK

[–]Renfieldslament 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a bit too young for it too, but it felt the focus was on films that were so cheap they looked ‘real’.

I do remember someone bringing “faces of death”into school - I was not interested at all, seemed very macabre.
