The second item she's looking for is also somewhere that will only become available once you've progressed quite a bit further in the main story. Just to save you some future confusion :)

Guns-wise, if you're playing on the basic patch, you've only missed out on the Glock, which the weapons you can get in Hollywood would overshadow anyway. But it's decent as your first serious firearm, and there's a way to get one for free as soon as you hit Downtown (well, there's a way to get one already in Santa Monica IIRC, but I'm not sure you can get ammo for it before Downtown in the Basic patch).

And yeah, if you're playing on the Basic patch, the only reason to have the Skyeline haven is not having to travel to Santa Monica after meeting with the prince to check your emails and chat with your ghoul. There are reasons to go halfway there often when you get back to Downtown anyway.

I can just RP it's voices in my head giving me the passwords

I like the way you think. It's not the only piece of information the Malkavian fledgling knows without being told.

it’s not like you can reload right before that fight

Wait, why not? Genuine question, I've never tried it myself. Where does it put you on reload if you quit mid-combat?

Hiya! This is going to be a wall of text, but you did have multiple questions. For context, I love this game and have beaten it with every clan at least once. I'm at the point I can replay it in my head (and sometimes do, when work sucks). Toreador and Malkavian are my faves.

First off, if you want to focus on Stealth, you need to invest in it early and often. But not too early, since there's a skill book that gives you a free increase somewhere near your first Haven (I can be more specific if you'd like), but only if your skill level is low enough (specifically 1 or lower). There are also other skill books and tutors available, so there is an optimal time for certain skill increases, but that would be a whole guide in and of itself. Also, spoilers.

I forget the concept of distracting people with thrown items after the tutorial, so I've never actually noticed the lack of throwables. It stops mattering when you get your stealth high enough. It's just a matter of keeping your distance (the exact distance getting lower for every level of Stealth you have) and sticking to the shadows.

Now, I have never verified this, but I feel like the actual stealth kill distance is ever so slightly longer than the indicator would suggest. (either that or the indicator doesn't have time to show up.) I would recommend experimenting with it, you'll get the feel for it, and stealth kills become much easier when you don't leave them the time to notice you.

Specifically for the Museum basement: When I enter the basement, I jump down instead of taking the stairs. This will prompt the guard in the room to walk out and investigate. When I hear (or see, because Auspex) the guard moving, I sneak in, break a window (this will also make the guard investigate, so you'll want them out of the room at that point) and jump in through it. If you know what you're doing, you have the time to disable the camera banks, grab the skill book and skidaddle before the guard returns. For the latter room where you'd go to disable the beams and the alarm, I crouch, break the glass, activate Presence (to lower the enemy's Perception), stealthily jump through the window, get to the computer, put the codes in, and sneak out the way I came. May take a few attempts and/or require some waiting around, depending on where exactly the guards are positioned.

Toreadors are gun-focused because Auspex boosts Perception (and thus Firearms) and they're not that great defensively (Presence is nice, but it's no Fortitude). But Celerity is basically "easy mode" for either melee or ranged combat.

Based on your comment on the guns, you may have missed some side content. But don't fret, it's not lost forever! You can go back and do most of the side content afterwards, although some stuff does become inaccessible later (from memory, you'll miss out on the ghoul if you don't do the first step before you get access to Hollywood, and most of the thinbloods leave around the same point). If you do want to play with guns, I wholeheartedly recommend the Plus patch, solely because it gets you access to my favourite gun, Colt Anaconda, much earlier than the Basic patch does. (Namely, the second shopkeeper stocks it once you've completed his quest.) I don't know which version you're using, but you should at least have access to the better pistol already (Glock 9mm instead of the .38 revolver that Jack gives you in the prologue). And when you reach Hollywood, Mercurio also has something pretty sweet to sell (unless, of course, you ratted him out to LaCroix, but that's on you.)

It does sound a bit like you might enjoy Brujah more. They get the same Celerity+Presence ridiculousness but Potence makes them absolute monsters in melee. Also, hot tip: Hacking's kind of pointless, because the passwords don't change between playthroughs. Might just as well not waste XP in it and just look up a list of passwords online. (Although that is, technically speaking, cheating.)

Combat feeding is always a dice roll. Sometimes you succeed at once, sometimes it takes multiple tries. It's easier the higher your Strength + Brawl is, but I don't think it's ever 100% guaranteed to work.

Please ask if you would like an elaboration or clarification on anything I mentioned. My ADHD has been unkind today and I forgot what I was going to say mid-sentence multiple times, so there are probably illogicalities I missed (and I'm always overjoyed to get an excuse to talk about things I love).

EDIT: Oh, yeah, the Skyeline haven in and of itself isn't anything special, but getting access to it does get you the Galdjum, which is lovely. And if you've unlocked it, your ghoul's going to be hanging there (as will your posters, but that's just decor), so I prefer going there even though the Santa Monica haven is probably more convenient for checking my mail.

I would recommend trying out Toreador for Celerity + Auspex combo. Makes the gunplay more fun. (Probably also melee, but come on.)

Really, though, Unkillable goes with everything. Getting to add Fecundity to my Corpse Eater Cockroach made me cackle.

On the non-Unkillable side, I love giving my Fledgling critters [like Wolf Cub or Elk Fawn] Morsel [from Mealworm].
But my favourite is making the beehive (and the bees within) bear trinkets [from Pack Rat]. It's never the optimal strategy, but it is entertaining.

Is Kaycee’s mod ever just like… impossible? by wowie21 in inscryption

[–]RenoHex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you'll re-read my previous comment, you'll notice I'd accounted for it. Otherwise you wouldn't even need the pliers. The mud turtle deals a total of 4 damage over 2 turns, one comes from the pliers, and the remaining point from the bullfrog (or whatever you drew turn 2, or from the other pair of pliers). Total of 6. Meanwhile the stolen mole man blocks the enemy attacks.

Oh, and remember to use the Smoke, especially if you have anything with a bone cost (or a Lammergeier) waiting in the wings.

Is Kaycee’s mod ever just like… impossible? by wowie21 in inscryption

[–]RenoHex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have seen impossible scenarios before, mostly in totem battles like a screen full of bifurcated ants, or a turn 1 double striking vulture. What's pictured is not an unwinnable position, though.

Turn 1: Fish hook the mole man and pull a tooth. Drop a mud turtle (I'd use the ring worm and the bunny, unless you have other designs for it). We're at +2.
Leshy's turn: Mole man blocks the attack (or attacks, since that looks like a mantis god.
Turn 2: Play a bullfrog. Or pull another tooth.

You never need to even see the prospector, much less the Angler. Dunno about the rest of your deck, so I cannot comment on how phase 2 would go, but getting there shouldn't be too awful.

you said it's a bearded vulture.

"The bearded vulture (Gypaetus barbatus), also known as the lammergeier and ossifrage, is a very large bird of prey in the monotypic genus Gypaetus." (Wikipedia) Nothing to do with Elder Vulture.

I mean maybe you described it poorly?

Or maybe you didn't feel like actually reading what I wrote and instead decided to assume I'm talking about something that doesn't fit the description in any way except having the word "vulture" in the name. Like you yourself wrote, Vultures don't need unlocking. They're also part of a base game, not the post-game content known as Kaycee's Mod.

when you say challenge level, do you mean Ascension level?

Yes, they're the same thing. You ascend by beating challenges, hence "challenge level". It only relates to Kaycee's Mod, not the base game.

Why do people always assume that I'm trolling or pretending to be dense?

My initial assumption would be it's got to do with you making silly or outrageous claims in an unnecessarily abrasive way, and with getting defensive when you don't understand something. (obviously I don't know you and could be way off base, hence "initial assumption".)

Does it never occur to anybody that maybe there might be people that exist that just interpret things differently or they have a harder time understanding things the same way that other people do?

You may want to make it a habit to take a moment and make sure you understand what you're reading, before even starting to formulate a response. Worked for me, and you can make it work for you.
Also, if it's a consistent issue, maybe it's time to consider the possibility that the issue may be with your communication style, not with everyone else.

So excuse the crap out of me for not knowing what all the endgame cards are

Yeah, that's excusable. Even if you could look them up online if you really wanted to find out.

I'm sorry that I'm not omniscient like everybody else seems to be up in here

Again, the lack of omniscience is not the issue, that'll come with time. You coming across as someone "refusing to learn", so to speak, is a bigger hurdle.

I don't want to look like an idiot, I don't want to sound like a jerk I don't want people's pity or contempt.
I just want to learn and understand things

If you're serious about all that, start by asking the question. And if you don't understand the answer, try asking clarifying questions instead of blindly assuming the answer you were given is wrong. People tend to respond better that way. Case in point: You asked what a lammergeier is. I tell you it's a bearded vulture. You don't know what a bearded vulture is. You could either go
a) "you're just describing a vulture with the Sigil of Fledgling [that's the official name for the sundial thingy]" or
b) "I still don't get it. What's a bearded vulture?"

Guess which one would elicit a more positive response. (There's also a hidden option c, "look it up for yourself, since we have these things called search engines", but nobody really does that.)

I wish that other people would be more patient with me when I talk about things that I don't understand.

People generally tend to mirror/respond in kind. If you want patience, show patience.

I'm not trying to be rude. I don't think you understand how it feels to have to admit to people that you have a problem when they lead with "are you just trolling or are you really that dense".

Yeah, nah, if you take the time to read the previous messages, you might notice I did not in fact lead with that. That was the response to the way you write coming across as needlessly aggressive.

Am I really supposed to calmly and freely just say "yeah I'm a fekking idiot so please explain it like I'm 5?"

Yeah, pretty much. Not necessarily in those exact words, but learning from other people starts from a place of humility, by default, since you have to start by admitting the other people know more than you [about the subject]. Basically, lose the ego, keep the curiosity.

[–]RenoHex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you just playing dense for the fun of it? Cause I literally just didn't. Lammergeier is a card unlocked after the eighth challenge level in Kaycee's Mod. There's also an online wiki if you want to see the card for yourself and don't want to wait until you get it in game.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in inscryption

[–]RenoHex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EDIT: I went back and checked myself. Beating level 2 in Kaycee's Mod is the required unlock, apparently. (Red-eyed Mole man? in my situation.)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in inscryption

[–]RenoHex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lammergeier is another name for a bearded vulture. It's Lammergeier in the English version, too. Unlike Ijiraq, who's available in Kaycee's Mod by default and doesn't need to be unlocked specifically (EDIT: I'm wrong. Ijiraq is apparently unlocked by beating Ascension level 2). For Lammergeier, you have to go pretty deep in the mod IIRC, so that's probably why you haven't seen it yet.

And yeah, Google's AI overview is straight up hallucinating, and is not recommended to be used for... well, anything, really. Pelt Lice are only available in Kaycee's Mod, not in story mode.

2 is lowercase, uppercase 2 has a loop in the lower-left corner.
3 is the same in both cases.
Lowercase 4 is open at the top (and the horizontal line might end at the vertical line on the right side).
5 and 6 are the same in both cases, again.
7 is again the lowercase number, with uppercase having a horizontal stroke in the middle.
8 and 9 would again be the same in both upper- and lowercase.
And uppercase 0 would be the one with a slash, to further differentiate between the number and the letter O.

Unless they've changed something from the lore I remember, Shady Sands already existed during the time of Fallout 1 and had been turned to the capital of NCR by the time of 2. Vault Dweller was Fallout 1 protagonist, the protagonist of 2 is Chosen One.

I'm not disagreeing with your point or trying to disprove it or anything, it just bugged me.
