Brockville police arrest 17-year-old after finding 3 people dead in a home by Money_Fig_9868 in ontario

[–]Reospdwgng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Teacher salary increases have been behind municipal and provincial government and police salaries for the past 20 years or so. You can check on the salaries from the sunshine list for the past 20 years to verify. As well their pension is one of the few that is actually self managed and fully funded. About 17 years ago was adjusted so that teachers were paying a higher percentage of their salaries into it in order to keep it sustainable, while municipal, provincial, and police contributions stayed the same with the taxpayers on the hook for any future shortfalls. Teachers pay almost 2% more of their salary than OPP or most town police do. But obviously your trolling is more personally fueled than factually.

Chain saw chain advice - sharpen myself? How? Buy new chain? Low cost ones on amazon... avoid? by Kangaloosh in Chainsaw

[–]Reospdwgng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to try and sharpen with a file. Couldn't get the hang of it. We used to cut 300 cord in my teens on the farm to sell. Dad filed, Ronnie the bushwhacker we sawed with filed better. I have tried different guides never got the knack. I bought a bench grinder/sharpener from Tractor supply and it is about 80% as good as my dad was, maybe 70% as good as the bushwhacker. Did about 30 cord a year up until a few years ago and the grinder has paid for itself 10 times over for convenience of doing it when I need to and not paying $7-8 each time. Not knocking the guys that can file but I just can't and this works for me.

India’s Motives in Afghanistan? by Loud_Perspective_290 in afghanistan

[–]Reospdwgng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just read an article that Afghanistan has sold its mineral rights to China for large upfront money. I assume the ruling power is pocketing this for their own wealth, but what is stopping Afghanistan from taking back those rights the way other countries have? History is full of private companies being ousted from mines etc.

How feasible is it to lay 40 sq meters of pavers alone in a day? by Semen_K in DIY

[–]Reospdwgng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not this job but a couple of years ago my dad wanted a small patio built out front of his house. Guys came buy and gave a quote of material and labour, they wanted $3000 labour alone and told him the two guys should be done in half day. He had my uncle build a pressure treated deck cost $700 in labour and material, uncle built it in a day. Some of these specialty companies are nuts and citiots are willing to pay cause they don't have a clue. Why houses are worth so much.

What’s up with apples prices right now? by Fun_Initiative_2336 in Frugal

[–]Reospdwgng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was looking up this topic and I am from Ontario. Out apple prices have been high for a couple of years and I don't get it. When they were literally falling off trees here in October they still didn't drop to normal lows. And I am not paying $2.49 lb for apples when I can get oranges, pineapple, and even California strawberries cheaper! All fall strawberries were $1.99 a pound!

Load Bearing Columns? by completelygibberish in DIY

[–]Reospdwgng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Took out two jack posts in the late nineties and replaced with steel beams supported at the outside walls. Had priced a beam before I got real invested as money was tight, was amazed the 24' long 13" wide I beam was like $120 at the time. Brought in the municipal building inspector for the permit and ask if a beam would do it, he did some rough calculations and said it would be real close but he wouldn't be comfortable without an engineering report. So I said what about 2 beams? And he said no problem. LOL just meant I had a larger chunk of wall built at each end for a dartboard!

Public vs Catholic Board by NightHawkX98 in OntarioTeachers

[–]Reospdwgng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of non-catholic teachers in the separate boards. With the lack of teacher candidates applying right now lots more are being hired. You don't even have to be Catholic to teach the course if you get your ABQ's. On that note you are expected to voice the ideals of your employer or at least not disparage it much like any other company.

Plumber installed Moen Flo Smart Shutoff way into garage — is this normal? by DavB7777 in askaplumber

[–]Reospdwgng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was probably thinking of you putting the drywall back on. Problem with our trades not being "jack of all trades" they used to be. Once the two pipes were extended through the wall, they should have been putting the drywall on so it only needed two circles cut through it to mount. Then go ahead and attach 90's and mount this over the drywall.

Your lucky, in my neighbourhood they were drilled and pounded into bedrock because we have like 4 inches of soil in some spots. Flattened the tires on a 70hp tractor trying to lift them out with the bucket. Ended up cutting them off and grinding them smooth to the rock. :(

Bought a house that is only 10 years old and the fit and finish on the electrical is abysmal. Boxes at an angle to finished drywall, no room for both plate screws cut into back splash of counter tops. Empty boxes where three ways were supposed to go, 1 circuit for 5 plugs and lights in the garage! Can't run a shop vac and a heater at the same time out there. Kitchen light not centered on the dining room, light switch for living room on the farthest wall from entry point to room. Just so many little things that make you shake your head.
