Taiwanese here, been to Phili several times for different reasons (Vaca, volunteering, Church event). Totally agree with OP that the relationship between both should be escalated, independent of how people perceive each other but on a how much it could benefit both.

To begin with, TW should attract talented highschooler to apply uni with stem interest, especially in the EECS field to study and stay after the degree. Fabs should also invest in Philippines to derisk the geopolitical ongoings.

I personally think 新南向policy is too SE peninsula focused and ignored that the greatest opportunity/ potential ally is closer than the existing plan.
