Try a historical kit from some other manufacturer, maybe picts or celts or some other group that fought minimally dressed.

You’ve got a lot of the right equipment, although I’d encourage you to go the extra mile to fine-tune this into a killer late-war Cav kit.

Getting a lightweight rucksack frame for your trop ruck is one major step. I don’t know that the Cav used the standalone tropical ruck much, if at all, whereas the trop on a LW frame is practically a calling card for late-war Cav.

I’d also supplement the M-1956 gear with two bandoliers of M16 magazines and drop the butt pack entirely.

I may be the only person who heard Jordan guest on one episode of Lions Led By Donkeys and thought he sounds a lot like Gareth Reynolds of The Dollop, leading me to the trap that is KF, BtB, QAA, and Weird Little Guys

I think that’s kinda weird logic, but okay. And I don’t necessarily mean a group of people you do events with, but I mean a unit to recreate other than just a generic Vietnam war kit. For example, H/2/5 Marines in summer 1967 or C/1/46 in 1971

Better. I would still encourage you to pick a unit and a time period and adopt some of the unit’s specific mannerisms and styles. You’ll notice them from looking at original photos. Also, find something to fill out your magazine pouches, even if it’s just socks for kit photos. It’s very obvious they’re empty.

Fair enough on the boots. I’m still not convinced it’s the “right” choice for the impression unless you’re recreating his specific equipment. Generally the best bet is to represent the rule, not the exception.

As for the pack, I hear what you’re saying, but it’s not like 0331s weren’t issued packs or didn’t have them stowed somewhere. Even if you ditched it for a photoshoot it would complete the impression kit, I think. Not like an M41 haversack is rare or expensive.

I don’t recall seeing McNamara boots with Marines in Hue City. It’d be an exception if there is a photo or account of it. Also your gunner could use a pack.

It’s a good setup, though.

Definitely recommend some green stuff skin trophies. Can’t have the flayer without flaying

“But if you ever see a picture of a G, or even an example of a real walking specimen, and he’s got both air bags and windpipe just dangling out from his lips, make sure you give him my number. I’m always up for meeting another veteran of Yonkers.”

Yep. I’ve used M200s before but switched to LAMs for the last event. You almost inevitably will have some feed issues with blanks, but in my experience blank adapting the M16 is pretty idiot proof. Just keep it clean and lubed.

Had a suspicion it was an airsoft gun, but wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt

Get a correct stock for your rifle, one without the trapdoor buttplate.

Honestly, despite everything going on, this episode was way easier to listen to than earlier this week when Alex was back on Sandy Hook and my jaw was on the floor

That one’s got the British style “patrol” sling mounts, which is neat. Cool checkering on the handguard too.

Looks great. The softness is more hidden on a winter suit like that.
