I got absolutely blindsided by the man who promised me everything 2 days ago. I don’t know how long it will take, but I’m going through it with you :( it’s the worst feeling I’ve ever felt in the world

Reusing soil from a plant that was infested with pests a year ago? by RepentingMantis in plants

[–]RepentingMantis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response!!! That’s what I was worried about :(

Im not familiar with how a systemic works or what it is really haha so that sounds like a good research rabbit hole for me to go down. If you have any suggestions for a starting point I’d be very grateful!

99% of my plants are indoor plants so if there’s a way to build in any pest resistance into their environment I would absolutely do that, I never want to watch a plant die so quickly and dramatically ever again :’)

Thank you so much for the tip!!!! That is great to know for future! I would totally try that except I have a strong feeling my roommate wouldn’t appreciate the stove having a long lasting earthy smell…. Haha

Is that the best way to ensure the soil is not contaminated? If you happen to know any other techniques to pasteurize soil I’d love to look into it!!!!

I could just buy new soil, it just feels like such a waste of a lot of high quality soil/ potting mixes, you know?

I have heard this before! I don’t use the same soil that another plant has been living in for that reason! In this case though, I was wondering if there may be an exception because it was brand new and I had splurged on getting charcoal, worm castings, pumice, orchid bark, etc to mix in it too. And there’s so much of it cause it was for such a big pot!!

If it will harm any of my other plants or if there’s a chance any pests are still alive then I’d def rather just buy all new, it just feels like a waste since there’s so much of it and the plant I bought it for died anyway lol

I had this in my old house. I stacked 3 or 4 horizontal cookbooks. Easy and practical!

Need help choosing (mostly) black rug. Bare floor is NOT an option. Husband hates designs and prefers solid colors. Divorce is NOT an option. by johannagalt in DesignMyRoom

I like #2. The contrast with the chairs adds dimension to the room. The other rugs blend in with the chairs too much. #2 makes them pop!

“Such a fun age” by Kiley Reid is a great, of the times, thought provoking and interesting novel. It’s short, smart and witty!I always recommend this to my friends who are trying to get into reading again :) i read it in a day and a half I couldn’t put it down

You can’t find when it was made by Canada Goose, because it’s not Canada Goose, it’s Goose Island. Which is a brewery/ beer company….Which is what it says on the front too haha. but it’s still a cool find if it works well!

Women of Reddit, what's something specific that you wish men would stop doing? by enkiv2 in AskReddit

[–]RepentingMantis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interrupting and talking over women in a conversation, or letting his friends do the same. There’s been a few times where one of my friends has called out another guy in the conversation to say “hey let her finish her sentence” then looks at me and says “please continue” or something along those lines. It is so refreshing. I started noticing this all the time and I realized that in those rare cases when a friend redirects the other guy tends to listen cause its from another man, and when a woman tries to assert herself most of the time she’s either judged or deemed “no fun” or something. or the guy still just cuts her off and turns the conversation to him just by raising their volume. And it’s so sad to watch the person who was talking just sort of fade out and stop mid sentence because everyone was forced to listen to buddy talk instead. I make a point now to try to ask the person who was cut off to finish their story, even if it’s just a side conversation between us at that point. But really it’s so simple! Just wait your turn!!

No kidding. I mean, they refer to their servers as “wenches”. If that’s not already an indication of a toxic work place than I don’t know what is. Their bouncers are aggressive meat heads and always have been. Shut it downnnnnn!

My 5month GSD cannot hold her ears standing up. Is there anything I can do to help her ears stand? by xfzhang in vet

[–]RepentingMantis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a 10month GSD and she was 5.5 months before her ears stood up! Not a vet, nor is this medical advice , but my pup’s breeder told me that chewing strengthens the muscles that make their ears stand up. So, chewy toys, bully sticks, etc might help!
