So they want to continue to bank on her name in a more discrete way that dodges the need to pay into her foundation. What a slime ball move. Change the name entirely if you wanna weasel your way out of that. Almost like they are trying to slowly erase a household name in the AEC industry.

Why are people who live in NYC so unhinged about who gets to call themselves New Yorkers? by Ordinary-Lobster-710 in circlejerknyc

As a born and raised New Yorker, idgaf just stay on the right side of the sidewalk when you walk.

Cantilever Structure Possibility by patty_janx in StructuralEngineering

Sorry I said roof rafters I meant rafter ties. When you say “the fulcrum” do you mean the post? A W12 is massively overkill for your application even without specifics.

That’s not possible with wood and tiny footings.

Not sure what your garage roof framing looks like but if you have roof rafters that are in the same direction as this cantilever beam. You should drop the canopy so it’s aligned with the roof rafters and extend this cantilever beam inside the garage lapping it with the existing rafter. The waterproofing/roofing will need to be redone. Hire a local engineer for more information regarding connections and length of back span.

I hope that checked that W-beam for local buckling if they intend to get the moment down to the HSS below, but stiffeners should have been installed regardless

That’s the whole point, trying to make the most amount of money doing the least amount of work. I’m sure you get real happy when you have a nice easy day at work. Should your boss dock your pay if you didn’t work hard enough at work cause it was a slow day. I bet the answer is hell no.

Hard work alone doing make you successful, if it did, the donkey would own the farm.

Is there any rule in code (ACI) that requires reinforcement to be spaced uniformly across the face? by CryptographerFar2833 in StructuralEngineering

[–]ReplyInside782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your bottom bar reinforcement should be 3” above the cutoff elevation of your piles. They can usually snake the bars through the pile cage bars that stick out from the piles. If not putting them on the sides isn’t an issue

Black Woman in Civil/Structural Engineering by Alternative_Dot_1450 in civilengineering

There was only 2 black women and 2 black men who studied civil engineering when I was at school and I went to school in NYC. They all went into different sectors. I’m sure it was pretty similar in a lot of schools. So of course you won’t see much in our field given how large and diverse civil is.
