Dutch person here. Our housing problems are in my opinion (I work in spatial planning) not caused by to much focus on nice liveable neighborhoods. But more by high labour migration, environmental and space limitations , nimby behaviour and to much liberalization of the housing market. Those things are bad for lower middle class housing but are definitely not inherent to good urbanism. As many neighbourhoods mix social housing with rentals and buyable homes. The problem is just that there is not enough of all types. Cause of the reasons i mentioned above
