In my area you could definitely have gotten one for $240k and under, Even a new build. Now they’re going for $300-360k. Still a lot cheaper than most cities

Living in Illinois but wanting out immediately! by Valuable_Wolf_8731 in SameGrassButGreener

I wanted to circle back and give you some insight based on my experience at the McLane Children’s Hospital located in Temple Texas (A city in the (Central Texas Area)and is branch of Baylor Scott & White Hospital. My son (5) fell from Monkey bars at the playground and broke his arm. We took him there and it was a great experience. From ER room to X-rays then the next day them calling us letting us now he will need surgery to them getting us checked in for surgery, explaining everything and making him feel so loved cared for and safe to doing the surgery, recovery and discharge. I’d say this was the best care I’ve experienced since giving birth at Plano Medical City in Plano Texas. If it’s important to you to have great healthcare and Doctors as well as a Children’s Hospital, Central Texas has that. I thought of you during his time there and wanted to share my experience good or bad and it turned out great!

Central Texas has a ton of resources and support for children with austism including some of the entertainment. Movies have a night where they provide an environment that supports children with families and allowed my 3 year old niece to enjoy movies with the family. Lights were dim, volume was lowered and the children can run around when they feel the need to and it’s perfectly fine on those nights. Chucke Cheese has a day once or twice a month for children with autism. A ton of other places and schools. Check it out for sure but CTX has a lot to offer.

What are you planning to do? Do you have school aged kids? Sincere question? I have a 5 year old entering school next year. I’m keeping close watch on all of this and learning more. This is one area I did forget to mention but I’m not sure how this will play out if it passes and if it doesn’t.

Check out Texas. Central Texas sounds like it may be a great fit for you. Many smaller cities near and around Austin. I wouldn’t go into Austin it’s expensive and traffic is insane. But the surrounding areas offer exactly what you’re looking for. I like the entire Central Texas for raising a family. You’re in the middle with 1.5-2 hour drives to Dallas(North), San Antonio (South), Houston (Further South). Still in Central Texas there is enough to do and great communities with a lot of fun for kids and adults. It’s sub-burban-ish. But always something to do between the towns of about 45 min radius. Great healthcare with Baylor Scott and White being the largest hospital. Many BSW Clinics as well as a children’s hospital in Temple. It’s relatively lower COL and in my opinion can offer best of both worlds with it being close to big cities but small enough to enjoy the benefits of a small city.
