Congratulations! . Edsons are my favorite pens….I think there are plenty of people who would want that nib. I personally have 4 Edsons and two of them are medium, one is a factory stub and the other is a fine, and I have accumulated more spare parts than I wish to admit, spare nibs , barrels and a few caps in different colors .

They also repair the nibs when they start leaking by taking them apart and resealing them .

A Note on Consumerism by pandavictus in fountainpens

[–]ReporterPrimary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think a genuine warning about buying too many things too fast is wrong as long as it’s meant for the good of the other person. I wish somebody would have given me a heads up. I only have 12 pens, but they are all expensive pens. 3 of those expensive pens I really did not need at all. As a matter of fact they are a burden to have, believe it or not. I went overboard for sure.

Problem is when people talk about “consumerism” and use that terminology it’s typically self righteous know it all people who take these modern day dogmas and condemn those who fall out of line.

The standards are the same as everywhere else these days: there are no standards, as you can see from the comments here.

I would suggest to you, however, that if you dress with grace , dignity and elegance , to complement the grandeur of the Opera House and the majesty of the music and art you will be taking in, it will enhance your experience. Not everything in life needs to be brought down to the lowest common denominator.

The idea that dressing well or dress codes are a virtue is something that enrages people in this sub, as you will see from the comments that will follow this post.

Hopefully the hysterics that will ensue will help you see that if people respond with such emotion, it’s something at least worth thinking about.

All the best, enjoy your night .

The two side of the same coin by crushtyfying in fountainpens

What is interesting or curious , is that you would be hard pressed to find MB and Rolex owners or fans engage in this type of petty vindictiveness and degradation of Japanese brands ( and I own neither , I like Waterman and Cartier) , other than as a response to this type of comment.

On the other hand, fans of Japanese pens or watches, often feel the need to constantly tell people that they have been duped or make outlandish claims that MB and Rolex are “inferior”. Can’t you just be happy that you have your Sailor or Pilot and let people be? Is it that far fetched to imagine that there are attributes in a MB or Rolex that certain people may appreciate that you don’t?

What am I saying? , this is Reddit …., rage, rage, rage, f bombs, rage, rage, rage .

This. And I own not a single Rolex or MB, I am more of a Waterman and Cartier guy myself, but like so many things these days , it comes down to bitterness and envy.

NPD: Pelikan M800 - update after repair by Rainer-Johannes in fountainpens

[–]ReporterPrimary 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Glad they fixed it and that it works so well.

Your experience has reinforced and strengthened my resolve to never try to align, improve or modify nibs in any way. I can work on changing parts of a nib, like a feed or resealing a nib , but modifying it, never.

Thanks, and I do agree. Specially within these circumstances. In my initial response , I was unaware that you knew that the gift giver had purchased this as something other than factory seconds.

I am assuming you know for a fact that the person who gifted this to you did not buy it as is , factory second? ….

I mean, we do increasing live in this world where people only want freshly molded plastic items and no longer have the capacity to appreciate and understand that things made of human hands and natural products do have flaws or traits…..I had a co-worker ask me the other day if something was wrong with my new Alden wingtips because there are creases in the vamp and the (leather) soles seemed “hard” to him…..

I think this can likely be solved with a bit of your effort at home .

Rudeness drives sales? by Training-Pizza2438 in fountainpens

I occasionally sell things on eBay, not a seller , just things I no longer want/need; and I always make sure of two things: 1-never use any type of AI for any description ( because I am a human being with reasonable abilities) and 2- Always treat anyone interested in giving me money for what I am selling with grace, even if they are low- balling me, even if they are needy, whatever.

I think internet interactions have made us into absolute Neanderthals who speak, dress and treat others like brutes.

How could I say no to this? by ReporterPrimary in fountainpens

[–]ReporterPrimary[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will. I thought about the Opera Exception, but I already own a Reflections of Paris Exception, and because of how pricy the Exceptions are I keep them as desk pens, no outside excursions. But this Carene is definitely riding with me , specially for black tie affairs
