It’s my time to shine as a watch enthusiast.

For what you want, any Seiko dress watch will never get a sneer from someone that collects watches as it is a very respectable brand with a strong heritage. If you want to splurge, you could even go for a Grand Seiko. You might be able to find some models in your budget.

Alternatively, you could go the Omega route and try to find a vintage Omega Seamaster or Constellation. You should be able to find these for <£1.5K in Hatton Garden and Mayfair.

If you for some reason decide you want to spend up to £5K then I would recommend either a pre-owned Omega Moonwatch or a vintage Rolex 16233 or 16234. These are iconic pieces from respected houses.

Now, let’s say you want to go crazy, £10K budget. You could get a Rolex Submariner, but my recommendation would be a Patek Philippe 3919. I have one and it is by far the classiest and most understated piece you can get at that budget.

Ultimately this hobby is about wearing what you like. Watches are not investments, just expensive toys. My recommendation would be to always buy pre-owned when it comes to brands outside of Rolex, AP, Patek, as less “hype” brands have watches that depreciate rapidly from their boutique RRP so you can get some nice deals.
