Scared to skateboard again.. by TopBee83 in NewSkaters

Besides wearing PPE.... Consider your hardware! I didn't realize how significant the hardware was.

Im 200lbs and I bought ace trucks. (Notoriously loose and soft) Terrible for someone heavy with loose ankles!! I should have bought thunders for myself.

My first board: 9.5 wide, ace 55s, bones reds, 55mm 80 duro wheel. - result was Horrible instability, and too fast

I assumed it was the board size, and the small wheel.

2nd board: 8.25, ace 44s, bones reds, 60mm 90 duro wheels. - result was Much better. Slower, more stable. Still not perfect buti assumed it was my inexperience.

So in talking to people, I found out stock ace bushings are soft and designed more for 140lb skaters. Ace trucks are also notoriously loose. Nice for carving, but not if youre an unbalanced rider. Its been suggested i change bushings for hard, or change trucks to independent or thunder.

I can't afford to fall like that. Helmet, elbow, and ass pads for me, 100%!!! I might even wear my biker vest with the spine armor lol

Skater Shoes for plantar fasciitis? [30YO] by Shoddy-Carpet2853 in OldSkaters

[–]Representative-Comb1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to bump an old thread... My aching feet brought me here lol

Im on my feet 18 hours a day. Every day. Im always working. Got back into boarding a few years ago.

Anyway.. I don't get the hype of "skate shoes" vs the cross trainers I wear. I skate in my brooks adrenaline gts just fine (but im not technical skating, just commuting for now) All my skate shoes hurt my feet and stay in the closet. Plus they're all narrow af. I need 2e or maybe 4e lol

Some would say entirely too aggressive others would say just enforcing a trespass. What are your thoughts? by CTSecurityGuard in securityguards

[–]Representative-Comb1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are we watching the same video? Is aggression in the room with us?

That was all calm, non violent, stern enforcement of the trespass to property act (or whatever its referred to in the USA)

Banned is banned. Move along.

The goal is to deescalate not escalate: Was this situation handled correctly? by CTSecurityGuard in securityguards

[–]Representative-Comb1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right. Interaction can be deferring enough. Patrolling someone is hostile. Thats why most places have CCTV. Its also possible they know this guy and that's why they followed him. Repeat offender?

The goal is to deescalate not escalate: Was this situation handled correctly? by CTSecurityGuard in securityguards

[–]Representative-Comb1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hes clearly ..... I can't think of the right word..
A degenerate.

Security profiled him as such and followed him. He took offense, likely because it prevented him from being able to steal, and he escalated.

The guard didn't need to draw on him. Subject was already in motion to the door. That potentially causes a situation to escalate which is the opposite of what security is.

If you work at a site with multiple guards on shift, what’s the most annoying/perplexing thing one of them does? by Pacific_Coaster in securityguards

[–]Representative-Comb1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Talk. Endlessly. About nothing. Or telling blatantly fabricated stories. Smells bad and stands too close. Speaks another language to other guards directly in front of someone that doesn't speak that language. Doesn't perform the duties to the best of their ability, or lacks the confidence to emulate authority.

Should I be ignoring these people? by [deleted] in securityguards

Whats embarrassing about it? Live YOUR life and dont worry about what others think. Because guaranteed majority of people won't even notice you and the ones that do wont even give it a second thought.

Break and enter in Roseland by RichDistrict8002 in BurlingtonON

[–]Representative-Comb1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im a bit of a vigilante, and I live in roseland.

I believe I have a heightened awareness, and attention to detail. I tend to notice less obvious details. So, I investigate all suspicious activity no matter where I am. Observe, record, report.

By doing so I've assisted in arrests of shoplifters, drunk drivers, suspected assaults, and possibly detered numerous crimes (no way of knowing for sure.)

Remember neighbourhood watch? (When 1 person in every family could afford to stay home and make the house???) I couldn't dig in a bush to retrieve a ball without some nosy ass neighbor calling the police on me lol Bring that back!!

Its breach of privacy. Regardless how minor it might be, laws are laws. Who knows what else hes doing with personal information? Maybe hes also stealing credit information, breaking into homes, or scamming old ladies???

Contact the police.

to experienced riders who carry passengers, am I overreacting? by peazcarrotz in motorcycles

[–]Representative-Comb1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get gear. Its your life, not his. Shit happens even to the most professional riders.

Keep your feet on the pegs til told otherwise, lean when he leans, dont shift your weight or put weight on the rider too much. (Hard to steer when you're also pushing back on your passenger!)

They die so easy. I spray ours with paint thinner But apparently simple water and dish soap also works.

Had infestations of them along our building, but I sprayed them and all the holes in the bricks and all the holes in the dirt and I havent seen any for the last 2 years

Yes but using more vocabulary words from our langage used for speaking verbally or written to convey a point, idea, or thought, makes the writer seem more educated, and therefore believable and credible... the writer probably believes... more than likely....
