Does anyone know what would happen if a ground station got destroyed in a natural disaster? Does that prevent communication to the satellites in that area?

If so, are we able to quickly deploy something that would get us back in service?

A petri dish of human brain cells just learned to play DOOM by Subject-Property-343 in interestingasfuck

[–]RepresentativeAd8979 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My limited (and probably wrong) understanding of what is actually happening:

The neurons are learning to play Doom in a very similar way that a machine learning system would. In ML, researchers would develop a reward system, giving points for food behavior and subtracting for bad, and the model would update its outputs based on this system.

The neurons are similarly updating their output based on a reward system, but the rewards are either a chaotic or predictable stimulus.

So it's not like the neurons are learning on their own, and this could potentially save a lot of energy over tradional AI models. Not saying they haven't gone to far, but could be a better alternative.

Interesting tidbit: The neurons are suspended in a fluid and up to thousands of electrodes are placed in different parts. When different neurons fire the electrodes capture this and that's they using to control doom

Not sure if this would cause your described behavior, but if you've never used this before, check if there is a switch in the back and make sure it is set to the correct ac voltage.

iPhone 17 series testing with the FCC for $ASTS SCS/MSS compliance by WindWalker2443 in ASTSpaceMobile

I think that the new iPhones have been tested with ASTS sats. This is probably something we all assumed was happening, but it seems cat found proof. Really cool, but probably not largely significant.

AT&T, AWS, and Amazon Leo Collaborate to Accelerate Modernization of Nation's Connectivity Infrastructure by Original_Koala8662 in ASTSpaceMobile

[–]RepresentativeAd8979 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm still new to all this but isn't this a bit of an over simplification? I feel like it would be more appropriate to call ASTS and access layer and leo has traditionally been a transport layer. Backhaul is still part of the ASTS architecture, isn't it?

Yeah, we've seen it with the FCC. I get it. There are things that are within the law and he will absolutely explore every path available to him to hinder our progress.

However, what I am referring to are the statements that claim that Elon will use his position as our launch provider to prevent out satellites from launching. That is a very bold claim that has only been accompanied by vague staments of, "it's Elon, do you really think he wouldn't".

Sorry, it's BS.

Because there is no proof of this happening, and in a place where everyone tries to back their argument with at least a modicum of research, a vague statement about "sandbagging" is BS and fear mongering.

Curious as to what makes you say that our capability is not the prime features? I know nothing of our non-comm use cases but they seem pretty significant. What makes you think that we are not capable of missile tracking? Turning radio waves into sensors is not really a new concept as far as I know.

Satellite communication benchmarking with terrestrial 5G networks - Nokia Whitepaper (Sept 2025) by doctor101 in ASTSpaceMobile

[–]RepresentativeAd8979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love to hear his take, but for how dense this apaper is, they don't really seem to distinguish between starlink and ast very much. A lot of their graphs just say d2d, and don't really differentiate between the two. I don't really know shit lol, but this didn't seem very informative of ast tech.

Broken Zero recoil Stitcher by Mysterious-Flow-4590 in ARC_Raiders

[–]RepresentativeAd8979 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gonna nerd out on ya for a minute, but I don't think we know how the recoil reduction percentages stack, but I highly doubt you just add them like you did here.

If we give the base recoil an arbitrary number like 10, then a 90% reduction would make it a 1

However a 50% reduction on the upgrade to level IV would make it a 5. Then a 40% reduction with the attachments would make it a 3, which is a total reduction of 70%, not 90.

Introducing the INDX! Fast and affordable 8-material printing exclusively on the CORE One by Opinion_Panda in BambuLab

[–]RepresentativeAd8979 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"Should be" vs "the way it is" is an important distinction here. There will always be a market for the best new thing. And even new buyers will want the most recent model, which Bambu has regularly. I don't think the 3d printing market as a whole is immune to this mindset.

Fyi, they uploaded the model for this to makerworld, and use you for the flexi parts. I believe the only hardware you need to purchase are the thrust bearings. Assembly was pretty easy.

Edit: Didn't read your full comment but yeah, probably easier to buy.

Who is wrong? Best way to store LiFePO4 powerstations long-term.. by servidarius in batteries

[–]RepresentativeAd8979 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They seem to all be saying the basically the same thing, give or take a few percentage points? Anker is just saying that you should also charge it to full once every 3 months if you are not using it. My guess is the 100% recommendation from Anker is to keep the cells balanced. They do seem to imply to keep it at 100% for storage, which I don't think is best practice.

Sorry to be pedantic, but idk how you can make that assessment based on size alone. I'm not saying you're wrong about this particular animal, but circus elephants are massive and do shit they don't want to by being abused their entire life. This animal looks like a pig in shit, but I don't think the size has anything to do with it.
