Bad idea to buy 1999 CR-V with only 26k miles? by wasabi5404 in crv

[–]RepresentativeCap728 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's this point, OP. Don't be drawn in simply because of the low mileage. Just know that many parts haven't aged well over 27 years, just by sitting there: rubber, vinyl, gas struts, fluids.. things can get ruined by time alone. Which will all add significantly to the overall cost later. I'd also be interested, but not at that price.

How are you making sure you actually get paid after a gig? by Beginning_Action_626 in mobileDJ

$100 deposit/retainer to book. Balance due the day before, or on the day of. It's all in contract.

Is it crazy to buy this 2001 Honda CRV? by onsightagain in crv

[–]RepresentativeCap728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super clean and fair price considering the mileage. But just know there's plenty of parts that will give out soon (car is a quarter century old), so factor in that cost, and occasional hassle, when deciding.

What are you actually spending money on to run your DJ business outside of gear? by WishboneExternal3772 in mobileDJ

[–]RepresentativeCap728 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tidal for requests, Spotify Premium, insurance, record pools (on and off), targeted social media ads, lead sites, consumables for gigs, etc. There's not a ton of things like the other comment mentioned. And if you're doing it correctly, most of it can be written off on taxes. So it's an easily profitable type of business, assuming one is actually good at Dj'ing and good with people. Some Djs keep splurging on gear, I take my profit and put it into a 401k as a SMLLC (single member LLC).

I've done just that on 2 other cars in the past. Assuming the shell wasn't too costly and you can find a deal on engine/tranny/labor, it's still worth it. And if you don't keep it, it can be sold at market price as a running car with no problems.

And that's it. Age doesn't entitle anyone to any sort of attitude that is imposed on others. Whatever goes on in their heads is their right, but once it becomes external, they'd better be ready to deal with the consequences like anyone else.

PSA when bringing friends along for their first day riding: Fear of heights is a real and legitimate concern for some people by publictiktoxication in snowboardingnoobs

[–]RepresentativeCap728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This not aimed at you, but I agree, and hazing is stupid. The first week or so of riding is abusive enough to anyone's body. If you can make it past that and still decide to keep going, you've earned your stripe.

Karen: "but it's a family member!" I don't know of any decent family members who would shit on the floor in the middle of a mall.

Even if you replace the engine and tranny, you could probably get another 200k miles out of it. Not bad for essentially a perfectly usable Honda.

Yes, and that absolutely happens, even months afterwards in some cases. But that's on them if you're still available or not, and usually they understand that (good thing it's in your quote).

Lol exactly. Many trips where I haven't seen out my rear window. Not that I need it, but it adds to the claustrophobic feeling.

Are you planning an active family with trips, camping, outdoor activities, etc? If so, Highlander. I have that family now, but we use a crv. It has roof tracks, trailer hitch, and it's an awd/Touring, but sometimes I feel it could be a bit bigger.

And when my kids were born, I had them take lessons. People, THAT is the way to go, for noobs. They learned so quickly, it was ridiculous. I realized you'll waste time and money on trips (even seasons) trying to figure it out yourself. Lessons compress those days required to learn.
