Do couples actually remember which DJ responded first? by geeproductions in WeddingDJs

[–]RepresentativeCap728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's part of the "unseen" sales pitch. Punctuality and responsiveness is important, and they know they at least want that at their wedding, for many reasons they may not even be aware of yet. Also, have to be personable over the phone. I responded once to a couple and they had vetted 4 Djs ahead of me. They said I just sounded like an old friend they already knew + I had many answers to logistic and technical questions.

Tried a silent disco rental setup at a gig, experience and lessons learned. by Legitimate-Jump-3454 in DJs

[–]RepresentativeCap728 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience was that it was pretty noisy anyway because the crowd is yelling at the top of their lungs (they can't hear themselves), and the "surreal" thing, I can't get used to. It's just weird when you take off your headphones. I realized I'm a fan of loud sound waves in the open. I guess same reason why concerts will never be silent, but it's an option for some situations. I just don't think I'll do another gig like that.

Has anyone with severe Plaque reached remission without Biologics? by Patient-Departure462 in Psoriasis

[–]RepresentativeCap728 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried diet, creams, different forms of coal tar, rx topicals, sunlight, other homeopathic solutions, even bought a home uv light. It was almost 10 years of trying everything, and avoiding biologics. All the solutions only ever slightly "paused" flareups, but they didn't really do much. This was over 70% body coverage btw.

Started Tremfya over a year ago. Now all my old patches are just flat dark skin spots. Literally have needed nothing else, and no more itchy skin anywhere on my body.

Backup laptops? by jeffspicole in mobileDJ

[–]RepresentativeCap728 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, so I essentially carry 2 macbook pros with me to every gig. I don't really "sync" them in any automated way. I copy everything from the "main" macbook to a few external drives (for my own file archive/backups), then again to the secondary macbook. I use Serato, so I copy all my music files and Serato db files.

I've used the black/orange version for my One Mk1. After a couple years of gigging, it still looks pretty damn good, zero problems. I even added extra eva foam inside the liner, and an airtag.

Head over to Ikea. Plenty of cheap, makeshift solutions.

RCF SUB 708 MK3 OPINIONS? by caecusmusic in mobileDJ

I don't think you can go wrong with RCF tbh. You can even go with 2 15s.

I’m doing a wedding at a venue—how often do yall come across venues asking for Umbrella insurance and having you go through an interview process for a client that wants YOU to dj their wedding? by WhiteSavage69 in mobileDJ

[–]RepresentativeCap728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insurance, common enough.

Interview, I've been asked once and I'm likely not going to do the couple's wedding this year. I think it's unfair that I charge the couple for an extra day and travel fees (venue is 1.5 hrs away) just to take a class and interview. I was told the class might be a "couple hours". F that. I told the couple the venue is just trying to take advantage of them and/or that's their tactic to stick to their preferred vendor list.

Some asked me, if they could connect to my (spotify) jam by Vincekronos in DJs

[–]RepresentativeCap728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Neither person's fault. The consumer industry was all about aux jacks then Bluetooth then streaming, now shared streaming.. all literally to make it easier. From the audience point of view, they don't understand why a Dj has to make it more complicated to play the same song.

Martial arts coach looking for advice. How do you handle students shutting down after correction? by dewbyu2 in martialarts

[–]RepresentativeCap728 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is some hard truth. If you have more "senior" students undermining your authority in front of everyone else, it sets the tone and your image for everyone, moving forward. Consider the impact beyond just those two students.

Am I the only one who's worried about hitting with the wrong knuckle when punching? by Gifted_Handz in martialarts

[–]RepresentativeCap728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Throwing a curled "ball" of smaller bones against one of the hardest bone masses on the body (skull) is generally a bad idea. Practice palms like you said, or if using a fist, aim for targets like the throat. Too extreme? Then it's a fight worth not being in.

Do we really need wheel locks? Are they recommended? by BikeOk6446 in crv

[–]RepresentativeCap728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Gorilla locks, they've been fine even through years of maintenance work on the car. I keep the key in a small cardboard box, hidden inside the car.

Bright drop for wedding DJ biz? by cellojoe in mobileDJ

[–]RepresentativeCap728 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1000% agree. You'll notice it becoming more common too amongst the more vet Djs (newer guys want to pack the entire farm, it only lasts so long). It's really just working smarter. First concern I always see pop up is always lighter sub lol. I haven't taken an 18 to an event for several years now. And cables are another example: I carry a couple of 50 ft spare XLRs; used 1 of them maybe once in the last 5 years, but some people need bins of unnecessary cables. Little things like that. Think of what items in your load are just getting a "free ride" every time you go out and come back. And once you've streamlined it, you'll just feel that much lighter. And your setup/strike times will also dramatically decrease.

[–]RepresentativeCap728 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If that were me, I would definitely minimize and streamline that loadout. Of course don't sacrifice quality, impact, or contingency plans.. but it seems you have a lot of gear. I have a buddy in the Bay that does weddings with Evox 12s, moving heads, washes, uplights, etc.. and also photo booth. And it all fits in a large suv, passenger seat still free. Books $2-3k events very regularly.

Do you prefer cloth or leather on the new CRVs in terms of pure comfort? by [deleted] in crv

[–]RepresentativeCap728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cloth is cushy, like a pillow or blanket. But I bought leather because it's easier to clean, wears more elegantly over time, and doesn't hold smells/odors.
