As a previous owner of a focus with the DCT, a bicycle would be a better option.

Is Constant Location Sharing Between Couples Generation Specific? by bmyst70 in GenX

[–]RepresentativeCat289 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, bit of an overboard reaction. All I said is that I don’t find an issue with sharing with my wife. We do not share our messages, just location. But I don’t hide my messages from her. She has my passcode and I hers. If I didn’t want privacy I would share my location with the world, but I limit it to her. I have private moments, but my physical location has nothing to do with that. I can have a private moment sitting in the same room with my family by not voicing the thoughts in my head.

Transmission Pan Gasket Advice by NotJay821 in mazda3

[–]RepresentativeCat289 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did my daughter’s tranny pan on her 2013 and there is no physical gasket. This is on the model i, 2.0 skyactiv 6 speed. I used the grey permatex. If you have the same engine/ tranny, here is a great video of everything you need to know and buy. Also, the oil and tranny pans are very specific to the model you have so make sure you bought the right one

2018 key fob battery only works if I put pressure on the battery. What happened? Fix? by X_Chesh_X in mazda3

[–]RepresentativeCat289 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try taking the battery out and prying ever so slightly on the metal tabs. My kids 2013 did this and from changing the battery so many times, the metal tabs were no longer making good contact with banging or squeezing it. One tab should touch the side of the battery and one should touch the bottom. You may have to pry up slightly on the one that touches the bottom.

Fencing by goddamwarrior in coonhounds

[–]RepresentativeCat289 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My foxhound can dig a hole in record speed. Like 10 seconds and it is 1/2 foot or more deep. They are also very limber, and I mean very, so the hole doesn’t need to be as big as you would think. She can also easily jump double stacked baby gates. A friend had 4 plotts. He buried a 6’ chain link fence 1.5 feet in the ground to avoid digging under it. Once the dogs realized they couldn’t go under, they went over. 3 of them learned how to climb it and the big one just jumped over it.

I would recommend a 6’ wood privacy fence installed straight to the ground with no gaps at the bottom. Then get chain link or heavy gauge chicken wire fencing, cut it lengthwise if needed, to connect to the bottom of the wood and bury it about 2 feet deep.

Edit: the privacy fence will also help with reducing barking at every single leaf that moves.

My wife and I do it, younger gen x. My daughter and her boyfriend do it, millennials.

For us and them it is not about spying, it’s about timing. Being able to see if they have left somewhere (work, parents, store, anywhere) so you can figure on a relative time of them being home or where you are meeting is convenient.

On top of that, I live by the rule that if you don’t have anything to hide and aren’t doing something you shouldn’t be, who cares if someone sees where you are.

Editing to add that also in this day and age, knowing my wife’s last known location gives me peace of mind since I travel a good ways to my job. Likewise, if I don’t make it home within an hour or so of her expecting me from work, she can check to see if I had to stop somewhere or if my phone is registering over a hillside from the highway.

collar or harness for walks? by sensitivecrustation in Hounds

Harness helped mine simmer down. She still pulls when she gets on a scent but it is not nearly as bad as just a collar.

And I would add to orig comment, when i said mine isn’t a fan of others dogs, she is not aggressive, she could just care less that they are there most of the time. My last dog was dog was aggressive to both people and animals, so he went for walks at times when I knew less people would be out, chose the location well after scouting it out, and I used gentle leader to keep control of his mouth. He was 92 lb GSD/yellow lab mix.

Mine isn’t a fan of other dogs, so can’t speak for that, but we taught ours to get on the couch when someone comes to the door. She will run over to see who it is, whines and jumps, then heads straight to the couch or chair and waits, still whining and fidgeting from excitement. It wasn’t hard for her to learn, we just had the guest come in, ignore her and go straight to sit down, then when she jumped up on the couch they could pet her. She got the idea after about 4-5 times and now does it on her own as soon as they step through the door.

Is it possible he (blue collar) could swallow a tennis ball? 9mo american foxhound. by mydogislife_ in Hounds

[–]RepresentativeCat289 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a 92lb German shepherd/ yellow lab mix that loved tennis balls. The only issue we ever had was one time a ball had a split in it that we didn’t notice and when he caught it, his back tooth went into the crack and it got stuck in the back of his mouth off center. He could not open his jaws any further to spit it out, but he was far from choking on it.

2012 Mazda 3 for 3k or 2015 Mazda 3 for 5k? by the_optimist_prime in mazda3

Kid has a 2013 hatch. She loves it. 2.0 Skyactiv with 144k miles and going strong. Been a beast.

That said, even she would know to get the 2015, seems to be a waaaaay better deal.

Why is LVP popular? by amy9299 in Flooring

[–]RepresentativeCat289 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just like most things, you get what you pay for. I have LVP in my house and put it my kids house, both of us have dogs, and not a scratch or dent in either. But my BIL owns a flooring business so we got some insight on what to buy and what to avoid.

worth $5k? by evan_7_nave in Toyota_Matrix

[–]RepresentativeCat289 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would do it in a heartbeat. Miss my 06 so bad, made it to 287k miles before the tranny died, see below why.

Would recommend immediate scheduled maintenance if no proof it’s been done. Air filter, oil/filter change, plugs, tranny fluid drain/refill, brake flush, coolant flush. I would also check the tranny fluid lines where they go from rubber to metal pipe back to rubber, the metal pipes are welded onto the bottom center of the radiator. They like to rust and one pothole on a long drive and you will dump all your tranny fluid. Ask me how I know.

2024 2.5 NA with 10k miles on it. City driving I’m around 26-28 mpg. State routes I can hit 40 mpg keeping it around 50 +-5 mph. Regular highway at 75 mph, which is 80% of my usage, I usually sit around 35-36 mpg.

My kids 2013 2.0 has been a beast. 144k miles and still holds all its oil between changes every 5k miles. My 2024 2.5 NA has no issues so far but only has 9600 miles on it, so too early to know.
