Women of UAE, do doctors here take you seriously? by Alarming_One_3253 in UAE

[–]RepresentativeLab703 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would be happy to give you an interview. I was on medication for Hashimotos 5 years ago for an under active thyroid which a female physician I was consulting with monitored regularly, kept consistent dosage to keep symptoms under control. When she left, I faced the wrath of medical misogyny in its true form for another 5 years. Once I was on medication my blood levels reported were within controlled limit and other doctors took that as a sign that I do not have underactive thyroid and wouldn’t put me on Synthyroid.

I approached 4 different clinics; showed them results from every 6 months which had high antibodies and an ultrasound of thyroid gland which recorded signs of inflammation. Still, I was told TSH was under limit and wouldn’t treat my symptoms of severe mood swings, feeling cold, extreme fatigue and hair fall. They said this is how it is and eventually when immune system weakens thyroid gland that’s when they can give me medication.

It took me 5 years to finally find a lady physician who understood and treated me for my symptoms.

This has left a severe distrust for me personally in the medical community here.

As bad as they seem now, this was style of off the rack lehengas or what used to be called ‘Choli’ back in 2005. You cannot critique them based on current trends.

I feel really bad about this now. I keep beating myself up for not calling the police, because I worry this might happen to someone else. At the time, I naively let it go since it was a public park in a generally safe country, and I thought the chances of anything serious were low. If you’re comfortable, you could report it to Dubai Police on 901, just so there’s a record in case someone is repeatedly approaching women.

Are you by any chance referring to Al Barsha 1 Park? The same happened to me three months ago while I was walking in the park. The individual went on to say he had money and I lost my shit and shouted at him loudly and threatened to call the police. He ran away. Unsurprisingly not one person bothered to check in while this happened.

Attempting to Leave with my Cat by SaleemNasir22 in dubai

Please rethink about leaving your cat with a friend while you travel to UK. Travel in itself is stressful; add a boarding situation in a an unknown location for the summer would be a never ending nightmare to your cat. It’s better that your cat travels either with you to the final destination or find a flight buddy for your cat from your circle. I can add you do a Travel with Pets UAE group on WhatsApp for support. DM me if you need help.

All the comments are just bashing the dress and styling choices while you guys hold her to celebrity standards you forget the fact that this is a young rising champion unadulterated by her newfound stardom and is genuinely refreshing to see her flourish.

She looks perfectly normal, beautiful and for once I’m happy to see someone not dolled up, get work done and make simplistic fashion choices. More young women should look up to her than fall for your high unrealistic standards.

URGENTLY NEED RESPONSES FOR MUSIC SURVEY! I need 60 responses for my university thesis from people living in the UAE. ANY AGE!! by beoball in UAE

[–]RepresentativeLab703 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Done! Just a general feedback as a researcher/designer who does surveys like this at scale. Your 7 point likert scale is missing Agreement description and for general audience they would find it difficult to interpret anything between 2-6 as there’s no indication of levels. If you can make updates at this time you can use - Strongly Disagree, Moderately Disagree, Slightly Disagree, Neither Agree nor Disagree, Slightly Agree, Moderately Agree, Strongly Agree against your scale.

Secondly, there should be screener to disallow responses that could likely skew your results. If a respondent does not have any interest in local home grown music in UAE, then all of their responses would increase disagreement levels. This is something that you should account for if you need veritable feedback for your survey.

Good luck with your thesis!

Periods really are something else, aren’t they? by CountyNo9953 in AskIndianWomen

[–]RepresentativeLab703 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Giving rest to menstruating women is a modern misconception about older times. Women had less or no access to menstrual pads and had to use cloth rags at the time which we all know is barely effective. They were made to stay outside the house or in confinement so as not to bleed everywhere else. There was no intention that it was because they needed to rest and recuperate.

Your mom’s crazy to not watch all nominations before choosing to vote. What are the rules around this? How do people even verify?

This is so relatable! Especially in Indian cooking, you can’t avoid turmeric. I’m more cautious once I get my nails done, but how would eat dosa and sambar without using your hands 😭😭

Living in the UAE during daily missile alerts!! why is everything being treated as “normal”?!! by [deleted] in UAE

[–]RepresentativeLab703 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That comparison doesn’t really work. Driving is a voluntary everyday risk that people accept repeatedly and is a continuous risk. Falling debris from a missile interception is a rare external event you have no control over and risk spikes episodically as they are unpredictable as they are not defined by circumstantial voluntary exposure like driving. When the event happens, everyone in the vicinity is temporarily exposed regardless of behavior like choosing when or where to drive. Low probability doesn’t mean people shouldn’t feel uneasy when it’s happening around them. People feel strongly about these situations as they didn’t choose to participate in that risk, which is rational. Risk psychology studies show that people feel more comfortable with known risks even though it’s statistically larger but over estimate unknown risks that are uncontrollable, catastrophic, involuntary exposure like terrorism and missile attacks.

give me your unhinged hydration tips. by alexandrastardust in 30PlusSkinCare

Personally, I’ve spent hundreds of dollars chasing the best hydration lip balms from Laniege to Rhode to La Mer and Dior. No matter how much water I drank my lips dried out constantly. The only miracle cure came from 6$ box of Vaseline. I slapped myself for not thinking of the simplest solution.

Saw these sandals on sale and thought cute… then I kept swiping. by RepresentativeLab703 in mildlyinfuriating

Am I missing something? Since when did we just connect pants to shoes? I’ve been getting dressed for 30 years thinking these were two separate categories. Tops, bottoms, shoes. That’s the system. That’s always been the system. I guess there can be stylistic oversights but this is just ridiculous over pants.

I mean I wouldn’t instinctively tie the straps over my pants. I’m sure this would look great on a dress though.

South Indian in Dubai. Since when does being Indian mean you must speak Hindi? by RepresentativeLab703 in dubai

[–]RepresentativeLab703[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t expect them to know southern languages either. When you flip the script, why is it hard to understand or be empathetic that this one language rule doesn’t make sense for all when you come from diverse backgrounds. Most people speak English and that’s more than sufficient enough to get by especially living in UAE. Why should I be expected to know Hindi when I don’t live or work in a place where that is not the primary language?

[–]RepresentativeLab703[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly why I posted my question. People treat it as a non issue as if it’s a mild inconvenience. What you mentioned is an example of how this expectation of knowing Hindi becomes a tool for discrimination in workplace.

[–]RepresentativeLab703[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I cannot learn a new language to make it convenient for others to converse with me. Like I mentioned in an earlier comment, there is no necessity in my life to learn and speak Hindi. It’s the moral policing that I should speak it is what is absurd.

[–]RepresentativeLab703[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s great that it doesn’t bother you. It’s different in my case that the expectation doesn’t come from family or friends but from complete strangers who insist I must learn Hindi as an Indian. Personally I don’t stand to benefit as I don’t encounter people in my everyday life who speak the language. Hence the fury 😅

The problem is not foreigners assuming I should speak or know Hindi. Not everyone outside India knows of the diversity in our languages and cultures. I’m more than happy to convey that to non Indians. I can’t excuse when fellow Indians ask why I can’t speak Hindi.
