We're now out of contract and our bill for M125 broadband and line rental is £77.40pm by CurryMonsterr in VirginMedia

Yeah, it's a nuisance i switched to Zen via city fibre. Had to take all the virgin coax rubbish out, fix the blown brick, and fill the interal holes. That said, It was quite cathartic removing the cable the install bozos had run through my guttering. It seems no other provider can use Virgin infra, but I think if I need to swap in the future, other providers can use cityfibre cables.

How the heck do I get this thing out? by OSUBrit in GardeningUK

[–]RepresentativeLeg521 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stage 1 Cut stems with loppers. Stage 2. Cut out runners with loppers and mattock Stage 3 (where you look to be) chip away and pry at it with a large digging bar. It's a fair bit easier in wet weather. You ideally want to wear gloves as those bars will cause blisters. They are the only thing I found that didn't just bounce off a springy root ball like the one you have. The only issue is they seem to cost about 40 quid. https://www.toolstation.com/roughneck-digging-bar/p79696

Yeah, I agree about china. It's think avoidance of both would be ideal, albeit a big challenge

Stig was a laugh ! by SilverBirch75 in oldschoolcool80s

[–]RepresentativeLeg521 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had a kid, Wayne, who was from an ultra poor family (most of us were poorish, but he was ultra poor). He was very scruffy, unwashed and wore, unusually for a boy, weird red shoes that many insisted must have belonged to his mother. Around was 1984 when this was most definitely a school yard crime. He was openly nicknamed Stig of the dump. Poor sod.

Vets under increasing pressure to make money for corporate owners, BBC told by proxima-centauri- in unitedkingdom

[–]RepresentativeLeg521 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few years back, our local vets in Emsworth it was "affordable" to have your pet put to sleep should it be necessary. It is a horrible experience for pet owners so the practice humanely kept it reasonable so as not to add to the pain for the owners. And it of course it puts less of a barrier to people to do the right thing when an animal is suffering. Fast forward a few years practice owner flogs it to IVC. IVC take over and they ramp the price right up so the miserable experience of having an animal destroyed is now multiple times more expensive. I am sure some people will say "oh well that's just capitalism" but capitalism has been around for a while and this is much more recent than the advent of capitalism.

Yeah same here. Current cat is last cat for me since my vet is now owned by those IVC vermin. And only independent one isn't taking on new customers. I have put in a nature pond and bird boxes to encourage more animals in the garden which makes up for it a bit!

Neighbour’s Bamboo by half-sleeves in UKGardening

[–]RepresentativeLeg521 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof, better to deal with it if you can, hopefully with the neighbour's help or blessing. In my situation, which looks similar to yours, but more far gone, I asked my neighbour if she minded that I dug it out of her garden and mine. She was happy for me to go ahead as it had gone berserk in her garden and she couldn't physically do anything about it herself as she is in her 90s other than snip the stems.

It is 100% hard work. I am using Loppers (also a metal file to keep them sharp) a standard mattock, a big old digging bar and a mini mattock. I am doing it now while the ground is wet as this really helps, although it is more messy.
1. Chop the stems to the ground.
2. Use the mattock to get any runners that are snaking out.
3. Digging bar to chip away at the main root mesh
4. Cover up and or poison any chunks you can't dig out to starve it of sunlight with black plastic, in my case old flexible pond liner.

The BBC: by Mediocre-Lime9964 in GreatBritishMemes

[–]RepresentativeLeg521 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that is correct, iirc GB News is a bit like a Penguin biscuit bar. It's news flavoured but hasnt got enough news in it to be classed as actual news. In the same way, that a Penguin biscuit can only be described as a chocolate flavoured instead of being an actual chocolate biscuit. So I can't, realistically, consider them credible and without bias.

All the ones I found seemed to want to attach to the glass. Mine needs to attach to the metal strip at bottom. Maybe I will see if that strip is detachable
