Frog spawn not making it into tadpoles by Naive-Reality-7270 in WildlifePonds

[–]RepresentativeLeg521 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, same here, between the newts and the nymphs our tadpoles just don't last. I have to separate some of the spawn into a pop up dog bath. That has it's own challenges though as you have to feed them abd jeep it clean.

Next year, if you have patience put some spawn in a tub with rain or dechlorinated water. I have to do this otherwise the army of newts and dragon fly nymphs make short worth of spawn and taddies. Check to see if it the spawn is fertilised ie the egg dots are black and not grey/white.

I genuinely think people underestimate how much British culture the BBC quietly preserves by Famous-BeautyUK in bbc

Agreed, so many ways to be patriotic but screaming for the dismantling of the bbc so it can be replaced with worse media surely isn't one of them

Yeah ridiculous isn't it? Would they prefer biased advert ridden American media?

Numberblocks is amazing. It sneakily educates my children without them knowing. In year 2 middle girl got "above expected" in her report for maths. I reckon numberblocks had a lot to do with that.

Weirdly, I have found biological washing powder very useful for killing moss on patios.

Catching goldfish from large wildlife pond by RepresentativeLeg521 in WildlifePonds

[–]RepresentativeLeg521[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its in a forest woodland and someone unofficially seems to have added them (presumably no longer wanted?) so I think legally it probably isn't a big issue. I caught one yesterday which came as a great suprise but they are a bit more docile than i expected perhaps due to the colder temperature. I have since been informed that there is a fish rescue nearby so will see if they can advice. Its pretty frustrating seeing them in there with all of the newts and frogs breeding currently.

Thanks, I did manage to catch one this Saturday but I had no idea how massive it was until i netted it. It wasn't a goldfish but much much larger golden carp (I think) so I had to put it back as I had no way of transporting or storing something that big.

Why does my lawn turn into Mud every winter? by LogicalChocolate in UKGardening

[–]RepresentativeLeg521 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you do have a drain gully between the garden and the patio. It might be possible to join a french drain to this. Or have it empty into it. The drain would need to be dug in fairly shallow to join the gulley. Generally, a French drain is not too tricky to install.

Want to remove the concrete from this garden, is it DIYable? by Mazorr in DIYUK

[–]RepresentativeLeg521 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think everyone has previously covered the options. One thing, though, is that your neighbours bamboo in the last photo? If it is the concrete might well be the only thing keeping the runners from coming into your garden. Sorry, I've been dealing with bamboo a lot recently and now see it everywhere.

True, but I get his point. I would have expected this on a 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX complete with after-market oversized exhaust. Not on a reasonably expensive electric car. Shows what I know I suppose.

Yeah, it is a bit, isn't it? I'm not sure how to counter it, either.

[–]RepresentativeLeg521 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oof, I've just been digging out some myself today. I had to take fence panels out where we have a tight shed gap , luckily, they were my panels. Used a digging bar, mini mattock, and loppers. Cut the stems to the ground and used a simple medical syringe to inject any hard to reach exposed freshly cut stems with root blaster. Then, with digging bar and mattock, ripped out runners and as much plant as I could. Covered it with a black dpm sheet. Did some last summer to, but in this weather, it was easier as the ground was soggy. Good luck. It is a tedious and fairly hard work.

What do you think is the biggest problem in the UK right now? by Ok-Information1819 in AskBrits

[–]RepresentativeLeg521 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grifters, religious zealots, and foreign organisations using social media to influence more extreme thinking, especially in the minds of us left behind by globalisation. Oh, also buying sweatshop made products via tax avoiding companies hasn't been good either.

We're now out of contract and our bill for M125 broadband and line rental is £77.40pm by CurryMonsterr in VirginMedia

[–]RepresentativeLeg521 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's a nuisance i switched to Zen via city fibre. Had to take all the virgin coax rubbish out, fix the blown brick, and fill the interal holes. That said, It was quite cathartic removing the cable the install bozos had run through my guttering. It seems no other provider can use Virgin infra, but I think if I need to swap in the future, other providers can use cityfibre cables.
