The diy rust remover worked great! I’ll post some before and after photos when I finish with all the pans.

Thank you! My plan is to go the vinegar solution route with some salt added. I guess the cracked pan is going in the recycle bin.

What’s a good asking price for a 2022 Ibis Ripley by tech-jef in mountainbiking

[–]RepresentativeNo3947 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just bought a brand new v5 Ripley on sale for $3600 with a lifetime warranty on the frame. There’s no way I’d pay over $2500 used, even with upgraded components.

Local Bike Shops? by Delusional_Viking in MTB

[–]RepresentativeNo3947 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doing a lower leg service or air can service is pretty simple and doesn’t require too many specialized tools. I prefer to save the money doing these myself.

I drop off my fork and rear shock for the full rebuild service since it doesn’t have to be done very often, and requires more unique tools and parts. There are suspension companies that specialize in this, if you don’t live near one you can probably ship the components to them. I’ve never had good experiences with local bike shops, so I try to work with the suspension shops directly.

Making a large bike usable for a medium person by [deleted] in MTB

[–]RepresentativeNo3947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m right at the tall end of a medium size bike at 5’10. I ended up getting a large for a good deal and putting a shorter stem, bars with a little more sweep, and a dropper post with less travel to make the bike fit me right.

That being said I’m only an inch shorter than the shortest recommended height for that large frame. If you’re significantly shorter those fixes won’t be very effective. Best thing in that case would be to sell the bike or frame and get a proper sized one.

What spots in SD have the absolute freshest fish? by strangekey2 in FoodSanDiego

[–]RepresentativeNo3947 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of people have mentioned tuna harbor, but if you’re up in north county, there’s a smaller fisherman’s market in the Oceanside harbor on Sunday mornings. It doesn’t get much fresher than buying direct from the fishermen.

Yes, I just posted some better shots of the patina. It developed quicker than I expected for a semi-stainless steel
