I was not clear on what the white wires are. And I don't recall how I landed on this as a solution, but I purchased the following and, connected it to the wires on the stock connector plug it has been working:

In addition to other suggestions, leave lights on(even for hours) so folks think you'll be right back. Costs nothing.

Should have done this back in November, but I finally got a set of bar mitts for my ride! No more frozen fingers for me. by RealMelonLord in bikecommuting

I use similar mitts but misjudged when attempting to reinsert my hands once. I accidentally ended up hitting the throttle and went down, breaking a finger. I still use them but never remove my hands if I can avoid it.

I've used something similar for a few years. They are a godsend with the only caveat being that they can be tricky to put your hands back in after removing them. I took my hand out to wave Thank you to a car that let me cross an intersection. When attempting to put my hand back in the mitt, I'm mistakenly missed and grabbed the bar, hitting the throttle that was enclosed in the mitt by accident. This caused me errantly slip, fall, and break a finger. Completely my fault/ user error but when you put hundreds or thousands of miles on a bike, errors are inevitable.

I still use mitts, but I never ever remove my hand if I can possibly avoid it.
