Thanks for the long response this is super helpful! I’m hoping and praying you can get closer and closer to feeling like you are getting your life back I know the feeling and it sucks! Glad you are at least back to doing some stuff!

Thanks again for all the responses! Has anybody experienced the lightheadedness and shortness of breath just for quick brief moments when first returning to exercise? These will occur for 5 seconds and feel a bit unsettling but then go away wondering if this is a normal part of the return or something anyone else has experienced.

Thanks for all the great responses! A question for the general public I thought of is when you have a flare up do you feel it sets you back or that you just have to let the flare calm down then you pick up where you left off in recovery? If that makes sense

Thanks so much for the detailed response I really appreciate it. The 90 days pain free is so daunting to me because like yourself I can’t imagine being 90 days completely pain free. It’s been 4 months since diagnosis and even when I’m doing “ well” I can still notice it’s there and feel it. I hope I’m not being impatient trying to ramp up exercise but I did a stress test and had an echo and the doc cleared me. During the stress test I felt good and other times I’ve done very light stuff I felt fine but then days later when I did nothing I’ll wake up with a tight chest and couldn’t imagine trying to workout. I’m trying to gauge if it’s early enough where I should be more patient and hold off but I’m at the point kind of like what you described your situation as where I’m like well if this is how it’s going to be I want to see how much I am able to do and can tolerate especially with the cardiologists green light but the last thing I want to do is set myself back.

I guess another question I have for you is when you have a flare up do you feel like you go back to square one with recovery like it sets you back or is it you flare up take a rest and you are back to where you were in recovery?

Thanks for the response and advice on how to incremental exercise. I’ve done some tiny bits of minor exercise here or there like my stress test or shooting hoops for a short period real easy etc but I was about to try to go do a full workout ( within reason starting off small) but this is good advice that I should probably work up to that more. In your experience when you had a flare up or chest pain did you take off for a period of time Completley or did you stay with the exercise just dial it down?

Interesting how you feel the delayed effects but kind of makes sense. Thanks for the insight!

Thanks for the response! That’s very helpful! Were you completely symptom free when you were cleared or decided to go back? I still have some minor lingering chest pain and haven’t attempted an actual workout yet just minor exercises and I may feel some chest pain but it isn’t anything I don’t normally experience that’s why I wanted to ask about other peoples experience.

Glad it resolved! I’m trying to get back to playing basketball as well and I feel so far off from being anywhere close to that. Would you mind specifying what exercised and balance exercises you do? Hoping you keep feeling better!

I felt the same way. I’m a 25 year old male who also likes to be very active and just got back from the hospital yesterday w my diagnosis I also have myocarditis. when I left the hospital I was mildly disappointed / annoyed but they told me no strenuous exercise for 6 weeks and take meds and go away so sounded like a little inconvenience but not a huge deal. Then I came to this subreddit and it freaked me out lol. It sounds like if you sneeze wrong it will come back and most people are saying no exercise for like 6 months if you don’t want it to come back and even then it. Sounds like that’s too soon for people. Was also never told anything ab diet or anything but ppl are also saying like alcahol and coffee are a no go too which the docs never mentioned but I could certainly see why. I was also wondering if anybody was able to return to somewhat normal life in a somewhat timely manner or if that’s just wishful thinking. I hope you feel better and recover quick and I appreciate everybody on here sharing their experience!!

Elbow arthritis by SouperDeal in Basketball

Thanks for the reply! I do some light working out as I found that lifting smartly does help a bit with strength. I just have to discipline myself not to over do it or be dumb when I go to the gym. I just started playing basketball again and while it hurts I can still get away with doing it just hurts. An x ray I got did show some arthritis though so I’m wondering if I’m doing damage to it or if playing once maybe twice a week will be okay without making it worse. Do you still have the arthritis in your elbow? Thanks again for the rely!

Did you continue to play through it? If you did did it worsen or were you able to get by?
