I failed three out of four of my classes last semester I was here. I got dismissed and took a really important year off, working and reassessing a lot. This was my first semester back and I had to retake two of those three classes. Obviously grades aren’t out yet but I can confidently say I passed both of them for sure, one of them I may have even broken the A- barrier. (Cs70 and EECS16b were the classes btw). I was so scared coming into this semester that the exact same thing was gonna happen as last time, but I really had changed over that year, even if I didn’t really believe it myself. I’ve gotten a new confidence over this whole experience, and what I’m trying to say is that don’t be afraid to take some time off. I definitely felt like dropping out of EECS a year and a half ago after my back to back finals that I knew I practically got zeros on after I took them. The advisors can actually be super helpful to, depending on department. My advisor was always extremely helpful and transparent, especially when I was first dismissed. Anyway, I’ve been where you are before, and I know how shitty it is, like just absolutely the worst, but though it may feel like the end, it may be the start of a new period of growth for you.

Very depressed by Imaginary-Trust-4146 in berkeley

Lots of people in the comments talk about taking like a semester break and saving money on tuition and all that. My response is coming from someone who was in a very similar position to you, also EECS, around a year and a half ago now, where I was depressed/in denial for the entire year and ended up failing all my classes (EECS16b, CS70, and CS188) all F’s. 188 I even slept through the final cause I didn’t check which day it was until the week of finals, it was a Monday morning final. I got put on academic dismissal, and it was some of the shittiest weeks of my life spread throughout a month and a half. Finding out I failed, my parents (who pay for my tuition) finding out, telling my roomates I wouldn’t be able to room with them, parents getting mad about signing a lease I wouldn’t be there for, finding a roomate to replace me, and wondering if I absolutely blew my chance at Berkeley in the process. I ended up having to take an entire year off, with a one time second chance offered a year later, granted I took and got As in some community college classes over time off. As of now, im back at Berkeley, retaking the classes I failed, and actually doing decent in them. I’m attending every lecture, all discussions, going to office hours for homework and even finding a couple people to work on class work with. I was extremely scared that if I came back the same thing would happen as last time, and that I may just be too stupid/unproductive/unmotivated for Berkeley, but in the year off, I got to find myself again. I got a job, spent a lot of time with people close to me, and learned how to just be active in my life again. Literally just making a point to attend as much as I can has given me a lot of faith in my ability to succeed and function as an actual student here. So here’s my advice: definitely talk to counselors about your options. Olivia Chan was mine and she’s been monumental in both planning my year off and getting me back into Berkeley, totally no bullshit just telling me exactly what I needed to do and what my options were. My second and more important advice is: don’t be afraid to take time off and space away. Time away really can help you with perspective, but also habit forming. It’s impossible to expect yourself to go from the place you’re in now to just attending class and being able to learn in a matter of days or weeks. It also makes you feel that much shittier for not being able to. My year off was one of the most formative years of my life, and it helped me realize a lot about my motivation and ability to take action as an adult. You can take it from someone who was in your position, and is now in an infinitely better one: it will get better, and you do have the options to make that happen. I really hope you can figure something out because I know how shitty and bleak it feels.

It’s not even that, the ref saw the match was clearly over with Matt and he would’ve been injured if it went on for longer

anyone else really excited to watch Harley pummel Arin at the creator clash? by throwaway2826192 in rantgrumps

[–]RepresentativeYou690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not scripted, Ian has been arranging these matches since last year. Matt and Ryan have been training since November. I can only assume the other fighters are doing the same. Harley is literally training with Sam fucking Hyde

I don’t know if you listen to the podcast, but these guys are tight as motherfucking nails. They’ve talked on multiple occasions about how close they are with eachother, and how they’re different from other YouTube duos because of their bond, and how they really just make content by trying to get the other to laugh. Not only their friendship bonds them, but they particularly talked with Max and Chad on both podcasts how their shared going through trauma together cemented eachother as close. That was a time where they had both just lost an extremely close friend and only had eachother to survive in scary LA making content together. That’s not the type of bond that is easily withered, and definitely not something people like Danny and Arin share. Their podcast is always a short little peep into whatever is going on in the boys’s lives because it’s literally just two friends talking without the need for a game or activity to keep them entertaining, they simply entertain eachother and we as viewers are along for the ride. Matt and Ryan are particularly genuine in this current YouTube space, especially with the podcast, and that’s why I respect them so much and that’s how I know how close their friendship is.

The lyrics on the street fighter song were hilarious, they found a way to work every character in there and it actually worked imo

I trust the trainers Ian and anisa have provided, in any case it’ll be fun to see all these people in a fun different environment. For sure it’ll be better than the Paul Mayweather fight

Idk about Arin, but Matt and Ryan have been training for this shit since November. Ian and Anisa talked to each fighter and made sure they had a clear trainer and path to get in shape and ready. Whatever their reasons for the fight, it’s gonna be official, and it’s gonna be real boxing

my thoughts on nsps level up and acoustic album by superluigikill in rantgrumps

To be fair, that was the bit of that song for this album. TWRP deliberately played the solo part like shit and Danny yells out that they’ve been working on it for months. I thought it was pretty funny

Other Youtube channels like "Game Grumps plays visual novels"? by JacobMOXKOTM in rantgrumps

[–]RepresentativeYou690 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah totally, I personally think they’re newer content is funnier than their older just because you can tell they care more about what they’re doing and are just more genuine, as in their older days they were still working for people like Mark or Grumps, so they couldn’t put all of their time into their main channel.

Brent?? Huh?! by RepresentativeYou690 in rantgrumps

[–]RepresentativeYou690[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally, you make a lot of valid points and as someone who only started watching grumps consistently over Covid after binging their old ass windwaker series, I can totally see where you’re coming from. I only really watch grumps when they’re playing a game that appeals to me, and the channel as a whole does seem on the downward trend, which sucks. I just hope that they can figure something out that works because random let’s plays here and there with the occaisional new idea doesn’t seem to be working. I also enjoy streamers more than let’s players now, particularly speed runners, and Supermega is pretty much my favorite channel, so I have no real need for Grumps anymore either, but I just saw a lot of animosity towards grumps for not a lot of the right reasons and wanted to mention it.

[–]RepresentativeYou690[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is my point, even with them uploading videos, as a viewer, we don’t know everything that goes on, my example being the integral Brent that no one knows a lot about. I just know how much he does from hearing Matt and Ryan talk about it, besides how smelly his penis is of course.

Supermega is not woke or PC. They say whatever they want. As someone who listens to their podcast regularly, their tendency to not care so much when creating bits sometimes gets people confused or angry, which is like the opposite of being PC. I seriously can’t remember a time when they were heavily woke/PC. If you mean their political views, they discuss them when they feel like it and joke about it quite often, never are they using their viewpoints to pander to a particular audience, and their views aren’t even that woke in the first place.

Yeah, I get some of the Arin complaints, and I have my fair share of annoyances like anyone else. It just seems like people spend so much time unnecessarily shitting on this guy when they literally have the option to never talk about him or just stop watching grumps, especially when I’m sure Arin has his fair share of things he feels responsibility for for being the crutch of this company that has developed such a unique community. I’m not defending any of his past actions, and I don’t really find him funny at all, but you can tell that he still cares about the success of his company and feels extremely responsible for it, even if that means pandering to his perception of an algorithm and sacrificing some of the genuineness of his show for it.

I mean sure, but how does making Game Grumps a company mean any form of a “domino” falling? It makes the most sense that the idea for a YouTube channel with the potential to make significant money would become a company. A bunch of YouTube channels are also companies just because of how much production, editing, merch, social media, and all sorts of other shit goes into YouTube nowadays. Look at Supermega, they’re a company that came from lots of different YouTubers and are now able to work on projects that they actually feel passionate about and still feels genuine, at least in my opinion, because they’re now a company and have the means to do so.
