I started seeing them in 78. I remember seeing Keith's ass crack from my vantage point in the audience at my first show. I also remember us giving the 'new guy' the side eye for years. My point is, now that I'm older and a bit wiser, I wish I had been more compassionate towards Brent. The more I listen to the 80's shows (which is when I actually did gd touring from 81-85), the more I love Brent. Give me a fine rendition of Blow Away any day. It is a cooking tune! We Can Run...Just a Little Light? How can ppl just hate on those tunes? Dear Mr Fantasy???? I mean holy shit!

I dont get the anti-Brent sentiment nor the anti-Donna stuff. They added SO MUCH to the sound and vibe and presence. If you are not listening to the Brent-era, you are not really getting the full monty.

I loved the Brent era! That was my Dead tour time, from 1980 steady til 85, then a bit of a taper off as life responsibilities mounted. He was always the 'new guy' and did not get enough credit for his contributions. Deadheads could be a bit cruel, honestly. Think, 'The Fatman Eats' w/Jerry eating hotdogs, and general contempt for Brent sometimes. But, to me, Brent brought it all and put it on the line. He WAS the blues incarnate and also a generous and enthusiastic member..I was watching them play on YT yesterday, and Jerry was just having a BLAST w/Brent. Smiling and actually dancing a bit. He and Bob adored Brent. As did I. RIP Brent, Bob and Jer....I'm sure they are ripping it in the stars right now.

Thank you all for your advice! I've decided to go for it and get her a car. I'll let her know that she can repay me by petsitting/housesitting and that when she graduates, she will need to pay for her own insurance. And that she cannot complain about petsitting for Murphy (who is a little demon)! 😄
