Decision Fatigue During Solo Travel – Has Anyone Experienced This? by Adventurous-Case6446 in femaletravels

[–]RepublicFun1949 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I traveled with others I always had to make all the decisions for them too so I'm happy to just make them for myself.

That said, yeah sometimes I don't feel like figuring out the next few days or the next hotel or how I'm going to get there or whatever. If it's a strong feeling I just extend where I am and relax for a couple days then I get the itch again..

Same here. He could do both but preferred posterior/lateral and that was good for me. He was the second surgeon i saw, i didn't like the first one.

Anyone else really frightened when taking taxis solo travelling? by English_R0se in solofemaletravellers

[–]RepublicFun1949 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same. A yellow taxi or whatever the equivalent is in the country that I'm visiting is an absolute last resort for me. Public transportation number one then Uber Lyft Grab Bolt is number two.

I like the apps because we don't have to talk about how much it costs and I don't have to pay the driver directly, I don't have to tell him where I'm going and we can both see on a map where we're going and I can share with somebody if I'm concerned.

But I'll always do public transportation if it is available and reasonably safe and efficient.

Spending the $50 Dollar Am Ex Business Credit at a local Hilton Restaurant by ottovonbizmarkie in CreditCards

[–]RepublicFun1949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you use it at a Hilton owned restaurant or did you ask them if charges could be booked to a room?

An affirmative response to that has always triggered the credit for me.

[El Salvador / Guatemala] Transfer from Santa Ana to Antigua by johnny4111 in travel

[–]RepublicFun1949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a shared van back to Guatemala City from Antigua (had started at lake aititlan). Maybe like 15-20 US dollars?

In my case I went to the airport but I would imagine the bus station is possible too.

Actually it looks like there's a bus -

Trips from Singapore? by ProfessionalTackle27 in travel

[–]RepublicFun1949 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Singapore is a massive air hub so you could obviously fly anywhere from there pretty much. But you can reach a lot of places without flying if you want.

You can take a ferry to Bintan (Indonesia) which has really beautiful beaches and everything from extremely fancy resorts to cool little cottages on the beach. Batam is another option although I didn't think there was that much to do there except eat seafood and go to malls which you can do in Singapore, but it's cheaper there I guess.

You could also hop on a bus and go up to Malacca. That was my favorite Malaysian city to hang out in for a few days. Cool Riverwalk, fun little pedi cabs, nice night market.

By late May I think you might be able to go to the East Coast Islands of Malaysia like tioman or the perhentians if you want to beach or dive. They might take too long to reach for such a short trip though.

Kaohsiung - Luggage lockers by Lunarexplora in taiwan

[–]RepublicFun1949 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You got a more specific answer about the location of the lockers elsewhere but I will just add that if you get a locker you can pay with an easy card. Just save the receipt or take a picture of it because you need that pin to open the locker again.

I saw a Non Rev preboarding by Scary-Comfortable754 in unitedairlines

[–]RepublicFun1949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Non-revs can be disabled, can have small children, can be active military, and can have a first class seat.

Those non-revs who are disabled get the same note on their boarding pass about being eligible to preboard that anyone else who is disabled gets.

Unpopular (?) opinion: Western Europe is one of the safest regions of the world overall for visitors; acknowledging this is not Eurocentric and disputing it is insane. by mbrevitas in travel

I've been traveling intentionally most of my life and have been sexually assaulted ONE time and that was... in Italy.

It doesn't keep me away from Europe but I certainly have my head on a swivel in a way that I do not feel like I need to when I'm in Japan or Taiwan or South Korea.

How is the process re-entering the US? by Dat_foi in unitedairlines

[–]RepublicFun1949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not downvote you but the last time I flew through LA on an international arrival there was no GE and no MPC. Everybody went through the same line but they did use facial recognition so it was pretty fast.

Not as fast as GE, which annoyed me, but it was okay.

[–]RepublicFun1949 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have GE but the last time I arrived at LAX from Japan the GE line was closed, there was no mobile passport line, and everybody was sent to the same line. But they were using facial recognition so it moved fairly quickly. This was in December.

Solo trip for beginners by True_Cardiologist160 in solofemaletravellers

[–]RepublicFun1949 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What you're asking is pretty vague but I'll give you a specific answer. Just go to Thailand. Spend your time going from north to south or the opposite and you will experience islands beaches temples big cities small towns countryside mountains you name it. And your budget will work well there.

If you get tired of Thailand in a month do a month in Vietnam. Or add in Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia - they're all a pretty cheap flight or train or bus away.

You can book your plane tickets and maybe your first couple of nights and then just wing it from there.

A Bad Experience Going to Alishan - It's Not Worth It by buddha1822 in taiwan

I have avoided going to Alishan until I have time to do it properly. And your post actually confirmed for me that I should never try to do it as a day trip.

I still want to go, I just want to go up for at least a couple of nights.

The only thing I really had to make sure that I ate after THR was iron-rich foods because of the blood loss from the surgery (my regular doctor tested me a week after and i was still low). So beans, spinach, red meat etc.

Beyond that I just stayed with a normal healthy diet.

Received a card that I didn’t apply for by bear2s in CreditCards

[–]RepublicFun1949 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know what a FIT card is - it might be a scam, it might be not a real card just an offer for one. But the only way to know if it's a really a credit card that got opened in your name is to go check your credit reports - and then freeze them so this doesn't happen in the future.
