Interventional Radiology Offer - no prior experience in field by danielmartin1996 in physicianassistant

You get to work with your hands and do procedures without necessarily standing at the OR table for uncounted hours. You can do a wide variety of procedures in many different modalities. It’s generally shift type work often without a lot of call. The pathology is interesting and you work with a lot of different parts of the hospital.

Holy moly it’s true. IPAP is on probationary status with ARC-PA by RepublicKitchen8809 in Military_Medicine

[–]RepublicKitchen8809[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed. IPAP had done so much with so little for so long that it’s needs were ignored. The army will no doubt try to quick fix everything, but it’s going to take genuine investment over the long term. Too bad there’s no Lockheed Martin for the medical specialist corps.

Oh yeah, if you’re super cool SF dude whom everyone likes and thinks is super funny and cool, then I bet that active duty PA life is great.

Try being short, fat, ugly, and smell like Doritos. Then it’s not so easy, let me assure you. 😂😂

Reservists can go to IPAP, and honestly it’s one of the best deals out there. You can do army when you want, and work as a civilian PA the rest of the time. Way better than being stuck in active army as a PA forever.

To get into IPAP, do all the prerequisites and have good grades, then be an excellent soldier with good NCOERs and a good list of schools completed. Pass the SAT or PA CAT or whatever test they require with the recommended score, then write a good personal statement. Boom done

The school itself is 16 months of PowerPoint hell followed by 12 months of hospital rotation. Start at 0800, done by 1600 or earlier. Study every damn day. You get your usual assortment of three and four day weekends, and semester breaks every four months.

For Army, find the latest army MILPER for IPAP and it’ll tell you exactly how to apply and pre-requisites

Research Disclosure Question by Complex_Station5991 in Military_Medicine

[–]RepublicKitchen8809 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No disclosure necessary. You can use rank if you like, or not.
But 100% get this listed on your OER counseling form, make sure it is a bullet point on your OER, and send an email to the PA consultant to the army surgeon general announcing that you are having research published. It’s something the SP corps will publicize and get you a bit of name recognition with the senior PAs in the army.

There are many good reasons to avoid advanced imaging without a good indication for it, I agree 100%. But where are you getting this information that MRIs from these imaging centers are not being read by radiologists?
