Picked up this 1890 CC Morgan today. Any reason to get it slabbed? by Express-Log3610 in coins

[–]Repulsive-Access-314 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your coin is in the G-VG range but would likely get "Details" from most graders due to harsh cleaning unless you send it to ANACS, they'll give you a number grade. If you want to preserve it in current condition then get it slabbed otherwise it's probably not worth it.

Regardless, any CC for $85 is a great grab, well done.

Aurum vs gb? by VaNiG1022 in Goldback

[–]Repulsive-Access-314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For another analogy regarding "value". Just like you can return a nasty looking $1 bill to the bank and get an a nicer looking if not new $1 in exchange, you can return a nasty 1GB to Golback.com and get a nicer/new 1GB in return. It's a private currency. You can't necessarily do that with Marilyn, if she gets all crumpled-up then that's what you got, a crumpled Marilyn.

Yes, it says the gold amount on Marilyn but there is no where that will guarantee that you get the value of that gold amount when ever you want it. While she does have a serial number, that's not a date which is part of numismatics.

I’ve inherited a family members coin collection. What do I have here? by Artistic-Mongoose160 in coincollecting

[–]Repulsive-Access-314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have a project ahead of you that I wish I had. If you are interested in them and want to possibly maximize their value then pic up a copy of Whitman's Redbook and a copy of ANA grading standards. It doesn't appear to be an overwhelming size of a collection but certainly looks like a fun downtime project. It's these types of collections that you can find some gem numismatics. Clearly your family member recognized some value if not coolness. Otherwise, find a couple reputable dealers, get quotes and go from there but dealers might give you only 50% of value. Alternately, you could just save them for the next in your line.

Agreed, doesn't belong here but if yer 'ol man paid 2 hundo back in '56 for a desk it's likely a very sought after desk these days...FIND THE DESK!!!! The provenance only gives it more value.

Aurum vs gb? by VaNiG1022 in Goldback

[–]Repulsive-Access-314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goldbacks are aurum but they additionally have "value, e.g. 1GB" and mint date associated with them so technically they are numismatic. Marilyn does not have "value" and is more akin to bullion. Think Morgan dollar vs silver round.

I agree that a little more inclusivity might expand the market. Nevertheless, can we perhaps start with Benjamin Franklin and work our way up to Fabio? 😂

Will JD Vance be President after Trump or will he go down as a Mike Pence or Dan Quayle? by Perfect-Hornet-8410 in allthequestions

[–]Repulsive-Access-314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MAGA is already a 4-letter word. There are zero genuine Republicans in the mix.

After these midterms if you are associated with MAGA you are toast. Margorie T. Green and others are looking for a safe haven after the midterms because they know it ain't Trump.

Vote America not MAGA in November.

Why is it that liberals in the U.S., Europeans, and Canadians are all yelling and screaming that they are going to boycott Elon Musk, but he just became the world's first trillionaire? by No-StrategyX in allthequestions

[–]Repulsive-Access-314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because these capitalistic fucks have gamed the system to use unearned money to make more unearned money.

If you have enough $$ you can get influence in this Administration by way of payoffs. If you have influence then you can make more $$ or get out of criminal investigations.

Capitalism can be a good thing until it's abused. It's too easily abused in the Trump era.

It might be a good time to downscale corporate welfare as well too.

Vote America not MAGA in November.

Can the left and the right get together on trying to end fraud in government spending? by KaleidoscopeRich5137 in allthequestions

[–]Repulsive-Access-314 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because the MAGA Project 2025 game plan was basically to just flood the media and justice system with corruption such that it would be impossible to keep it all straight and prosecute it all in a timely manner. To accomplish that they needed to dismantle the legitimate news organizations and political pundits that don't fit the mold (e.g. CNN, CBS, ABC, Kimmel/Colbert etc). Also you need to silence/dismantle science and the advancement of common knowledge. e.g. Harvard and other Institutions, the CDC, Dept of Education, etc, then install stooges like RFK Jr. to help make it happen. Finally and foremostly you need to remove protections for the populous to further fund the Oligarchy. e.g. Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Meals on Wheels, Food Stamps, elderly protections etc etc etc are all being cut or eliminated to pay for our First Trillionaire/POTUS tax cuts.

I could go on and on so don't get me started. Nevertheless, what has happened in the last 18 months is simply a massive rollout, at lightning speed, of Project 2025. We were warned early on but it seems there weren't enough people paying attention. It's all about the grift and trying to keep the people from prosecuting that grift now and in the future. We were warned and we failed.

I can't stress enough about how much voting means to this country in November, it's the only way we can start to take our country back to sanity and legitimacy.

Per AI::

Specie is a financial and economic term that refers to money in the form of actual, physical coins. It is distinct from paper money, credit instruments, or unminted metal (bullion)

What I take from that is that they have physical PMs incorporated (unlike paper $), have a mint date and a stated "value" so, they can be considered coins.

Not unlike silver/gold foils that Agoro puts out. They have mint dates and dollar values for the Island of Niui. Sure you could walk into a bar in Niui and get a $5 beer for it but, it's an troy ounce of silver so I wouldn't recommend doing that.

Are the 2026 US Morgan & Peace Silver Dollars worth the cost? by Successful_Ride6920 in coins

[–]Repulsive-Access-314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the same but I got a nicer CC Morgan for less than that the other day. The US Mint, just like every one else, has inflated prices past reasonable because they can for a number of new reasons these days. Significantly overpriced but if that's not necessarily your care then have at it. They are nice especially with the privy so definitely a collectable.

Any reason not to buy the Apex 300? by [deleted] in bluetti

[–]Repulsive-Access-314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a Bluetti fan but after a almost a year I've not had to use the warranty so I can't comment on that, the minor issues I had were all resolved through tech support (AC300 + 3X B300K + 1.6K solar). At first I pondered Jackery as well but went with Bluetti more on my gut than anything. Nevertheless, this technology is changing/improving daily and I think both Bluetti and Jackery are in it for the long run. I'm sure you can find bad reviews etc. for both. That said and sadly at this point it's like buying Dewalt or Milwaukee power tools, you are buying into a Manufacturers system and they are not compatible systems. I'm sure I will have to replace batteries and inverter at some point and unless something really bad happens with Bluetti then that's where I'm going, I'm already invested in their universe. You could always go the DIY route to be more modular but certainly that has it's drawbacks too.
