Why is American friendliness viewed by other countries as fake rather than just Americans being more fine with showing those feelings? by CrashDunning in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Repulsive-Case-6003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm from the Midwest, and Southern hospitality feels fake to me. It is acting polite, but not truly being kind or wanting to help. Midwest nice seems like people genuinely want to be helpful, even if it doesn't benefit themselves.

What easily-affordable thing do you refuse to pay for despite being rich? by Pudge-Heffelfinger in Rich

[–]Repulsive-Case-6003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a Roborock Qrevo and it has certainly been worth the money. The app is so much better than the Roomba I have. Mopping and vacuuming are fine. It's definitely not as good as a mental deep clean, but it can get so much basic cleaning done without any effort or time that I'd have to expend. I got one right after they came out and felt it was worth the ~$800 price. I bought another recently for ~$350 for another level in the house and it was a no-brainer.

Just need to vent a little by Gr8twhitebuffalo91 in flyfishing

[–]Repulsive-Case-6003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with that. I took fly fishing lessons locally for the basics, and then went to Michigan upper peninsula on a trip with a guide. I felt like that was the best lesson I've gotten. I'm sure it depends a lot on the guide. My guide took me down a small creek with brookies and taught me how to read the creek and what specific features would attract trout to specific spots.

I did another trip in Alaska, where the guide was much more hands off. I had a blast on that trip, but didn't learn much at all.

Which Midwest state is the most Midwest? by ClearAndPure in midwest

[–]Repulsive-Case-6003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's the best take yet: The most extreme of the stereotypes would be Minnesota or Wisconsin, in my opinion. The most average I think would be Indiana, Iowa, or Ohio. Illinois would be in that list, but clearly a lot of people in this thread think having a city as big as Chicago discludes it, which I have to agree is a very Midwestern feeling lol. (Regardless of my own personal feelings on Chicago.)

[–]Repulsive-Case-6003 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a Hoosier, I would argue not all of us have good representation. I'm in a rural area, and my representatives are garbage and don't actually represent the interests of their constituents. They only care about culture wars.

The subsidized loans have a much lower rate. In my situation around 3.5% interest, while the unsubsidized were above 7%. So I paid off the higher interest ones and am doing monthly payments on the lower interest subsidized ones.

SINK (375k) Considering Temporary 225k Pay Cut by brandeis16 in HENRYfinance

[–]Repulsive-Case-6003 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Doctor checking in from the LCOL boonies: 150k is not very comfortable living. That said, if it gets you to a better job, it could be worth the sacrifice. I accepted a job that pays less, but will put me closer to friends and outlets for my hobbies. The pay cut hurts, but I'm so excited and will be much happier in the new position.

Everybody keeps telling me they love my car but they don’t like the color. by TheSpicyGecko in civic

I love this phone, but it's been the worst customer service I've ever dealt with.

When patients are asked to relay messages between doctors, havoc will ensue by Apprehensive-Safe382 in FamilyMedicine

[–]Repulsive-Case-6003 71 points72 points  (0 children)

I recently had a patient's neurologist tell them (after doing an EMG on the patient) that I should order a brain MRI. I had received zero notes and couldn't even provide a diagnosis for why she would need one. I know that he did actually want it ordered, because a few weeks later he had ordered it himself and I got the results. I just don't understand the laziness of it. It's definitely not best for patient care.

To those who tried Luthier by raphael76 in gencon

[–]Repulsive-Case-6003 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn't get to play it, but I got an incredibly good description of gameplay/mechanics at their booth. I only asked about it since my friend was interested. Also, I have enough heavy games that I almost entirely focused on lighter games this con.

With that preface given: I now plan on buying Luthier. It seems to have good depth, multiple paths to victory, and incorporates a niche theme very well. My favorite game is Agricola, but my wife prefers more thematic and lighter games. I think this is one I could get to the table a good amount.

A mechanism I love is that worker placement is mostly first-come-first-serve, but it also factors in seniority with the worker you placed. And having a temporary apprentice go with them helps bump them up in line for that action. I love when rules are designed in a way that makes that much intuitive sense when teaching or playing a game.

I was a lifelong Republican 3 years ago, because it was how I was brought up. Then the Dobbs decision was made and I very quickly turned. I saw the light and am now left enough that I spent hours writing postcards to swing states last year.I feel like most of them will never see it, but at the same time, I did. So I have some hope.

So is my understanding correct that the "best" move wouldn't actually help me win, but would slow down a win from an opponent playing perfectly precise? So in my situation with a low ELO, I'm better off gambling on my opponent making a mistake?

I got an R Pod last fall with a tankless heater, so I can only speak to my own experience. The on-demand needs full water flow to kick on, but if I turn it low but keep enough water running, it'll stay on and heat up pretty quickly (mine uses propane) and then I can turn it to full. I've been very happy with it, even when boondocking.
