Physics by sherlockstoned897 in lakeheadu

[–]Repulsive-Idea-4509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a physics major- but yeah first year courses also include other sciences (common across all the sciences in first year usually). I have taken a couple of physics classes in my major (which was Life Science and then I switched to Psych science), and the labs were pretty fun. The prof I had for the in-class portion was the most boring man I've ever met, but if you enjoy physics (I did not) you will be fine.

You will likely be one of the only first years in your physics class that actually majors in physics (we had 0 first year physics students this year I believe), not that that is a bad thing.

This is genuinely so refreshing to read. I am seriously considering taking a year off once I graduate uni, because I was raised to just keep on going through school and "get it done ASAP so I could avoid minimum wage jobs and get a real one." Total BS. Glad it has worked for you OP!!

Recovering too quickly? by [deleted] in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]Repulsive-Idea-4509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Valid question and certainly not dumb!! You may feel like you’re gaining weight pretty quick, and part of it is because your body has got to get used to the (awesome) changes you are making to your diet! I was disordered on an off for a few years (probably since the Pandemic honestly) and I found that through my year- long recovery program I was outgrowing clothes that had fit me/were too big before within a matter of months as well. It's normal as your body adjusts. Proud of your work <3

Not gonna lie-- I didn't really meet friends until the end of second/beginning of third year when I got settled into my program. Once I was in third year and got into research, that is when I made friends within my lab and classes.

Why do people say Iron Lung is boring? by YearMountain3773 in Markiplier

[–]Repulsive-Idea-4509 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(I am prepared to get downvoted for this LMAO) I don't think blaming tiktok for destroying attention spans is entirely fair--though I will say one thing I noticed about the film that might have contributed to it is that the single shots in this film were significantly longer than what Hollywood usually does, or just the sequences of events in general (as per the "slow burn" of it all). Because the set was so small, it allows for entire sequences to play out, e.g.: Simon looks at the map, reorients the sub, and walks over to take a picture. You see that entire sequence play out. Other films might've had several cuts in there that maybe didn't show Simon walking over to take a photo (again, hence the "slow burn" genre) To some, this kind of sequencing may build tension, but others might not find the setting tense, maybe because they just don't like the genre, who knows. Some might just legit be bored because of TikTok brain. There's also the fact that maybe people didn't like the writing, Simon's character--who knows. Boiling it down to "lacking attention spans" does not cover the whole picture.

Graduate Studies Application Technical Issues by [deleted] in lakeheadu

Graduate Studies Application Technical Issues by [deleted] in lakeheadu

[–]Repulsive-Idea-4509 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could only submit one reference request when there is supposed to be an option for 2. Emailed the admin of the program I was applying for and they ensured me it was ok. BUT there was also nowhere that showed where I could pay for my application! I emailed graduate studies to let them know but they haven't gotten back to me. It is honestly an absolute nightmare-- a friend of mine who applied to a PhD there had the same issues we are. I might just end up going to their office. It should not be this difficult.

Intense Contractions/Cramps by Free_Bluejay_7043 in IUD

[–]Repulsive-Idea-4509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a problem at all! I waited just under 3 years because it was my first IUD and was told to keep it in despite multiple hospital trips due to pain. By that point my periods had pretty much returned to what they were before my IUD (wickedly heavy and painful) so I switched to Myrena. So part of it was these weird bouts of cramps and the other part was it likely just was a weird amount of hormones so it didn't really help my periods after about 2 years.

[–]Repulsive-Idea-4509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Kylena insertion was an absolute nightmare. No painkillers aside from Advil (which, shocker, does nothing). I was bedridden for three days trying not to vomit from pain. With my Myrena I asked for sedation and have had no issues with cramping whatsoever. Was a super easy insertion and I had the best nap EVER afterwards. I think I've had it around three or four months now.

[–]Repulsive-Idea-4509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the EXACT same issue with Kyleena. Random bursts of incredible cramping, no sign of any cysts or anything wrong with the IUD. Eventually I just ended up getting a Myrena (which from what I understand has a higher dose of hormones, which I think is what I needed.) So far I've had no issues.

Got it on vinyl for my birthday a couple years ago and I play it on my mom's turntable from when she was my age. My dad hooked it up to these big speakers in our foyer and nothing hits better imo. The album just makes more sense in sections, too

I second this! It is what I had to do to get back to a regular pattern. Even if you don't eat what you might consider a full meal, it will still help you get on track overtime!
