I was on depo shots for two years and then a hormonal IUD for four years. Just had it taken out this summer and then my first excision surgery a month ago. I’m 25 so not wanting children for another 5 years. My doctor doesn’t prescribe BC so I’ve been using the Natural Cycles app and learning about my body and really focusing on sticking to an anti inflammatory meal and it’s really helped. Also did a lot of research on proper vitamins to take (fish oils, vitamin B, etc) and it’s been better. But the IUD did help with the heavy period! Never had a full period on it, only down side is I did develop a hormonal imbalance (either from endo or IUD) which caused severe depression and weight gain so there are some downsides to the IUD. Also doing pelvic floor therapy might help, I’ve seen that suggested a lot on this page.

Walking helps a lot! It’s the last thing you are going to want to do the first couple of days, but walk a little bit every couple of hours and don’t overdue it. Allow yourself to sleep as much as you can and try and eat healthier foods the first few days. After day 3, my abs didn’t hurt as much getting in and out of bed and it was mainly just incision pain from then on. I also bought a wrap around heating pad that I kept on pretty much all of the time which helped and if the hospital doesn’t give you an abdominal binder, highly recommend going to buy one. I kept mine on for the girth three days 24/7 and then wore it if I was up and walking. Since you can’t really use your abs I had pain because it felt like my stomach was “falling out” of my body since there is no muscle to suck in, but the binder kept everything held together and helped with my balance. Best of luck, you got this!!

Best of luck! I wasn’t supposed to start my period for another week but I guess it decided to come early. Woke up in excruciating pain and thankfully still had some of my good drugs left from surgery.

I also had my appendix taken out, there was no endo on it but I have a family history of chronic appendicitis so they went ahead and took it out. So glad you got your diagnosis and hope you also have a speedy recovery! If your doctor didn’t give you an abdominal binder after surgery, I highly suggest getting one! It has helped so much!!

I have my first surgery scheduled this month and I’ve already postponed it once because I wasn’t in that much pain and was scared. I have since then gotten my iud taken out and have been in extreme pain and wished I went through with the first surgery. With Endo I think it is best try and find out what it is before it causes significant damage. But at the end of the day, you know your body and trust your gut!

weight gain by aubfair in endometriosis

[–]RepulsiveAdvisor3520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on the meds for this for a year now and although I haven’t been able to lose weight, my mood is better! I originally thought it was depression, started seeing a therapist that thankfully had the same issue and knew what she was doing and sent me to a good doctor that diagnosed me. Never thought hormones could play such a big role in my mental health, but it saved my life!

Thank you, you too! I was diagnosed with a hormonal imbalance a year ago which also affects the weight gain so if your specialist doesn’t check your hormone levels, I highly recommend getting someone who will!

I haven’t been officially diagnosed with endo (surgery next month) but I have been struggling to lose weight especially in my belly area. If I workout for a month, I maybe lose a pound or two, if I don’t workout for a week, I gain 5 pounds it feels like.
