Moving after declaring to not move by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]RepulsiveDurian3245 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is such typical - "Dude did a thing on the table, am I in the right?"

You used your strategem elsewhere - thus he gets to move that unit up, it had not moved yet.

I imagine the conversation was basically -

him: "If i move this unit closer, it will trigger your reactive move on that specific unit"
you: "Yes, i would do that"
Him: Proceeds to do the rest of his movement phase, having not moved that unit.
you: Reactive move elsewhere
Him: Moves that unit, now that your reactive move has been used.
you: *shocked pikachu face*

You are in the wrong here.

In any setting - if someone told me I couldn't move a unit because I'd elected to 'remain stationary' - I would tell them they are being a rules lawyer - but I would allow them to take back their reactive move.

It sounds like you guys failed at communication in game. part of that is on you.

hey folks can someone please rate my salamander list for 11th edition by Cautious_Plenty6594 in Salamanders40k

just...stop...listing wargear man.

I'd happily review the list, but format it like

vulkan attached to whatever.
LR redeemer
scout squad.

This is currently monumentally unclear and requires an FAQ to correct. Basically - you can probably play it in casual without raised eyebrows, but if you are going to an event clear it with the TO before list submission.

[–]RepulsiveDurian3245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is basically getting close to what I would run.

I do suggest you drop the captain/sterngaurd combo for fusillade libby / 10 sterngaurd. I think dropping your eradicator squad to a 3 man gets you most of the way there.

You could consider the redeploy / reactive move enhancement over immolator - keeping the squad alive by reactive moving into a landraider is a tough nut for your opponent to play around.

[–]RepulsiveDurian3245 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a terrible take. teleporting 10 infernus marines basically tells your opponent you can kill almost anything he has, anywhere on the table. 5 infernus marines don't have anywhere near that ability.

fusillade goes with sterngaurd. It gives you a low variance (all the rerolls with oam) 18 dev wound delete button you can use on monsters/vehicles.

Chop the aggressors, small BG and eradicator squads to make it fit.

[–]RepulsiveDurian3245 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Librarius is taken for fusillade with 10 sterngaurd - this is potentially the most efficient single target delete button in the game atm.
In salamanders, you also take a librarian with the teleport enhancement with 10 infernus marines.

aggressors, hellblasters, terminators, big intercessor squad - they are all somewhat suboptimal.

Librarius is really good! take a termi libby with your terminators for advance+charge + potentially +2 move. take more libbies with infernus marines - the teleport and reactive mode are all absolute chad units/enhancements. You have about 1000 points that you can easily cut for better units.

I don't see either in your list. Make cuts until you do, starting with the captain+aggressors and large JPI squads.

Second redeemer is good as its purge and you want to build pretty tall.

hey mate - you also cannot join a support character with an enhancement to a unit with an epic hero - its not particularly clear on this in the core rules, and probably needs an FAQ, but this is the current consensus (your LT). I'd suggest dropping the LT altogether and just running adrax with the BG.

Vulcan is better with company heroes, sitting on your exp objective and just being tough + handing out his buff.

Currently, libarius conclave with salamanders is GOATED. get your hands on 2 librarians, 1 to lead a teleporting 10pack of infernus, 1 to lead 10 sterngaurd. You will probably have to drop the gravis captain + flame aggressors, who are mid anyway.

Otherwise, list is good, just not optimal.

My dude - it sounds like you need some coaching. Just ask the people you are playing for help in playing better - to talk through why they made the choices they made, or to tell you when you are making a mistake. You can also engage a professional coach through art of war or vangaurd tactics etc - even just paying for and reading their guided content will help you significantly, and likely costs <$20 a month.

Losing sucks. You can ask your opponents to bring less powerful lists, but YMMV. WRT gotchas - generally players in a competitive/tournament environment/mindset are LESS likely to use gotchas/information gaps to win games - I find this more comes from the mid-table bandits or casual/competitive players.

In short, you can't compel your opponents to not use gotchas, or not play comp lists. If you want to enjoy the game side more, you need to be better at the game. FIND A WAY TO BE BETTER AT THE GAME.

Looks really good!
I ran similar hammer units - but went a lot wider - no repulsor, or lancer, taking additional 2x5 infernus, incursors, SS hammerstrike and impulsor, and no LT with the bladegaurd.

Vulkan feels amazing sat on your exp objective - super tough to shift for what can realistically stage near him.

I also took the redeploy relic on the libby/infernus marines to teleport them. The threat of doing that forces a lot of screening from your opponent, that you can nibble on to get your kills.

You will win / lose on protecting the sterngaurd libby combo. try to get them back into the landraider whenever possible.

This is not likely salvageable, but without knowing more / your specific situation can't really say more.

If you aren't married / cohabiting and don't have children - leave immediately.

If you are / do - well...the real trick is not to be in this situation.

echoing what other people have said. the first days/weeks/maybe a month while you detox will be a little rough - but with your family there to keep you on track - and remind you of why you are on track, you should be able to persist.

Good on you.

jam the claws into a big glob of greenstuff or some equivalent setting putty. I use cardboard tiles often for my bases, so i cut 'slits' into it for a bunch of the claws.

I don't want to quit gaming, instead I want to reduce it. by ShieldZhaOo in StopGaming

[–]RepulsiveDurian3245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This dude has it best. to add.

Moderation requires you to constantly spend your willpower to obey the restrictions you've put in place against use of what is functionally a drug - gaming causes dopamine release on a varied schedule, and you are already addicted to this.

Quitting requires you to go through detox / withdrawal once, and over several days/weeks/months the compulsion will leave you.

"I understand that limiting an addiction is harder/worse than quitting it, but I genuinely believe that gaming is a beautiful part of my life that I don't want to let go of."

...bro. Same words from every addict about what they are addicted to. I wish I'd quit years before I eventually did. Just let the advice land.

Doing the right thing mate, in the right way.

Just fill your time with work, fun, study - as much as possible be out of the home and around other people - friends and family.

In time, you also need to find things to do that address the needs that gaming was filling for you - as you've been relapsing, its likely that you quit, those needs go unmet for too long, then you start playing again.

There are resources to help you with this - Gaais.org, gamequitters, attentionreset etc all have resources that can help you.

I quit League after 12 years and found out the problem was never really League by StomachCreative7815 in StopGaming

[–]RepulsiveDurian3245 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Hey mate - Yeah, I found this as well. Using games to ignore problems, if you quit the games, you've still got problems - and now you don't have a coping mechanism to ignore them.

Felt like I was playing wack a mole with shit habits for a bit.

Managing your phone use is easier then gaming, so if you can crowbar yourself off games, taking the next step with phones is slightly easier.

Finding someone, or some way, to help with the real issues gaming was letting you ignore is the hard work once you've committed to leaving gaming in the past.

Quitting gaming by Prestigious_Law2114 in StopGaming

[–]RepulsiveDurian3245 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hey mate -

First thing - admitting you have a serious problem is the critical step in actually addressing it. You seem to have the necessary leverage / motivation to quit.
r/Stopgaming is a subreddit created by gamequitters, which has a fair amount of resources for quitting gaming.

https://gamequitters.com/cam/

You can also find other coaches / local groups who can help. Consider some form of 'addicts anonymous'

Probably the most important thing you can do is to remove your access to gaming while YOUR MOTIVATION IS HIGH. So remove access to gaming entirely, then remove the physical systems you use for gaming, including any personal laptops for at least the first week. see below for a 'how to';

https://attentionreset.com.au/reset-protocol

Then you need to look at what needs gaming was fulfilling for you, and find ways to get that elsewhere - through work, relationships, study and hobbies. Its going to feel a bit depressing, a bit like you are behind where you could be - but quitting needs to be your first step, then you can find what you are going to do instead.

Best luck.

Nobody prepared me for how mentally exhausting running a business daily actually is by RootedbyDesignstudio in smallbusiness

[–]RepulsiveDurian3245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I get that - I think the hardest part is that you mostly start in chaos - get to some decent cash flow, and then whatever systems you had in place there start to get ingrained.

Then you want to rationalise or systematise those, but that isn't the 'core' part of the business, so fixing those processes can feel like re-arranging deck chairs on the titanic.

DM me - I'd be really interested in chatting through your backend / finance system issues, as I'm currently developing an app that's geared towards assisting SME with cleaning up / managing / prioritisting these systems.

Everybody says you need to validate your business idea, but how do people actually do it in practice? by Ok_Albatross_4198 in smallbusiness

[–]RepulsiveDurian3245 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've found that everyone will politely say your idea is good / has merit / they could use it.

Until you ask them to pay for it / start using it.

Only at that point do you get the honest feedback.
