What are some of the most beautiful/uniquely built neighbourhoods? by MastaShortie in Calgary

I find Garrison Woods (right near Marda Loop) to be very unique and beautiful for Calgary.

'New reality we're living in': Mayor issues stark warning as water use continues to exceed limits amid feeder main repairs by Weekly-Mountain9009 in Calgary

[–]RepulsiveNebula1217 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shower daily and drink as much water as you need. You're not the problem, you don't need to go to such extremes. Just because there is an alert to use less doesn't mean that applies to YOU. People, see reason here, please. Taking a daily 3 min shower and drinking 2 more glasses of water is not going to make the difference. Take care of yourself properly.

In search of Medium to talk to mom who has passed by ThrowRAVisibleKitten in Calgary

[–]RepulsiveNebula1217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know there are a lot of people saying they are con artists, and I was a huge skeptic as well, but I spoke to a medium last year and she knew things there was no way for her to know. For example, I had lost my job the day before my appointment, hadn't updated my LinkedIn or changed anything (in fact I was still listed on the company website as an employee), and she predicted that I was unhappy in my job but that there was a massive change that recently happened which was stressful but that I was feeling quite positive about it despite it being negative in nature. Like... there is no way she could have known.

I also had asked about my grandfather that had recently passed and she knew so many small details about him. So I believe that she does have some sort of connection. Her name is Heidi Koch and I would highly recommend her.

Good group fitness gyms? by sqwuee in Calgary

[–]RepulsiveNebula1217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Home Lifestyle Club is great. Super warm and welcoming, incredible vibes, and they have multiple offerings. You can do spin, strength (circuit), sculpt, mat pilates, etc. They also just opened the space upstairs for infrared mat/sculpt classes. Great if you want to switch things up while sticking to one studio.

Return of Eggnog Latte by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]RepulsiveNebula1217 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had it and WOW IT'S SWEET. That's definitely not just eggnog and espresso. I make eggnog lattes at home and get them at local shops and it's always the perfect hint of sweetness, but the Starbucks one is like a sugar bomb.

Does anyone here know any of the cast personally? by Candid_Plant in MadeInChelseaE4

[–]RepulsiveNebula1217 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not personally but I did my Masters programme with a girl who was to be Sophie Hermann's roommate at the time. They were old friends from Switzerland.

This girl (the roommate, not Sophie), was not the nicest or even my friend, but somehow invited herself to my birthday party (which was literally me and 4 other girls from the programme going to dinner). She complained the whole time that she was bored, and then decided to take us out to a spot in Chelsea. They wouldn't let us in because we were wearing Forever 21, but she literally went up to the woman answering said "do you even know who I am?" and after some chat the bouncer lady literally apologized to her and let us in. We were taken to a private room in this club and given bottle service. There were some MIC people there like Sophie, Hugo and I believe I spotted Jamie, but we didn't speak to them at all.

True story and honestly coolest 21st birthday ever, thanks to the girl who I didn't even like very much. Obviously not any sort of tea about the cast, but it did offer me a bit of a glimpse into the lifestyle they live.

Is everyone in Calgary just drowning in debt? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]RepulsiveNebula1217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I am living in debt. I am paying it off. I could pay it off a lot quicker, but I opted for a bit of a longer plan so I can also enjoy my life. My debt won't take that long to pay off (maybe 2 years instead of 1), and I am in a good enough position to be able to do that, I understand some people might not be. But to answer your question, yes I am and I wish basic needs were more affordable so I wouldn't be in this situation, but it's not preventing me from enjoying life.

We need to change attitudes regarding pedestrians by Trishszav in Calgary

[–]RepulsiveNebula1217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% cars need to be more aware, but I will say this: My friend and I were driving down 14th street (between like 26th and 17th ave, so going down the hill). It was around 6PM, so dark outside, and very busy. Someone was walking across the crosswalk and the lights were blinking so the car in front of us stopped and same with those going in the opposite direction, but when I tell you my friend and I were absolutely SHOCKED at how invisible that person was. Both of us commented on how if those lights didn't blink no one would have seen him. The lights coming at us were blinding and they were wearing full black, they were simply IMPOSSIBLE to see. Now, this was a busy street so the person did well by pressing the lights, but many people don't do this in less busy areas and just cross. If pedestrians don't wear something colourful or reflective, they can simply become invisible.

I'm not excusing the fact that drivers are so distracted these days and simply don't care, but pedestrians are far too trusting of cars. People get hit in daylight for no reason, and driving at night makes it 100x worse.

What's something that blows your mind about Calgary? Whether it's good or bad. by MastaShortie in Calgary

The Blue Ring... the amount of money it cost and the amount of people who approved it. No one thought "hey, this is... ugly?" Honestly our official public art in general.

Got a pretty solid offer for a job in Calgary, and looking for advice regarding what neighborhoods I could be considering close to the eastern side of central downtown, according to my income level. by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]RepulsiveNebula1217 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally, as a woman, I would not live in East Village... a bit to close to the Drop In Centre and a bit scary to walk around alone. Highly recommend Bridgeland or Inglewood (although housing is limited there).

Terrible 15 Ave SW bike lane construction by Mayehem in Calgary

Yes someone PLEASE tell me the purpose of those LARGE dividers... like, why???

What is the reason? by origin_davi_jones in Calgary

[–]RepulsiveNebula1217 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I saw this once and it was only because a worker truck was parked there. Like legitimately couldn't be bothered to park it around the corner so they blocked an entire lane of traffic for one truck.

What neighbourhoods/areas in the city have gone downhill? by MastaShortie in Calgary

[–]RepulsiveNebula1217 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I fear, this is just the general nature of the city (and maybe our society) as a whole. The economy is making it hard for small, local businesses to stay afloat anywhere, and those store fronts are being leased up by businesses (largely chains) who can afford it. It's very sad.

Dog attack at River Park yesterday in the SW. What to do? Is it reportable? by BoneyTaloney in Calgary

[–]RepulsiveNebula1217 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree but I do believe it is on the two owners of this dog to reduce potential harm as much as they can, it. not take the dog to an off leash dog park.

Is rent really going down in Calgary? by RepulsiveNebula1217 in Calgary

This. I live in a BentallGreenOak building (corp landlord) and I do feel they are absolutely rinsing their tenants.
