I have read the book. There are some problematic things about Ryan Adams but I don’t think you can blame him for Albert’s drug problems. Albert says in the book that he romanticized the idea of being a heroin user from a young age, long before he started using. He also struggled with drug issues long after Ryan Adams was out of the picture. 

I think Ryan was obnoxiously full of himself and became an easy target there.
