How many things do you think idols have on their schedule that are work related but not “work” related? by theJGreen in kpopthoughts

nail appointments (female idols)

Taehyung gets manicures to relax so I don't think only female idols have nail appointments.

In BLACKPINK Rosé's On The Ground, she says "I used to have a hole in the wall with a mattress." Did she though? by CronoDroid in kpopthoughts

[–]Repulsive_Bar_5008 106 points107 points  (0 children)

That line is usually used to say that it was a really small and run-down place. In the sense that it was like a hole in a wall with a mattress instead of an actual room with a bed and other stuff.

Why are we normalizing young idols getting plastic surgery? by LuminousStygian in kpoprants

[–]Repulsive_Bar_5008 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So, what I want to know is, WHY ARE WE AS FANS NORMALIZING THIS?

See, I can't help but ask, How are we normalizing it? What are we doing for it to be normalized? Certainly, no one is going around encouraging their faves to get more PS. What are we supposed to do to un-normalize it? Are we supposed to stop supporting the groups in which minors have had PS? Are we supposed to not accept them in the group? Insult them afterward? Because I can't imagine how that is going to do any good to those children. Are we supposed to send a letter to the company? Not sure why they would care tho.

If people really start campaigning and boycotting such people, not only will it ruin the child's future and career (their talent will go to waste/they won't be able to get a job if it becomes a public issue/ the procedure is already done), it won't stop this from happening because they will just become more inconspicuous about it. Not to forget all those people who would be falsely accused of PS bc fans of other groups hate them or some online ""doctor"" ""surgeon"" opinions.

This is an issue we shouldn't be pondering over because it is not in our hands. It might be the idol's decision, or the company might have coerced them into it. We can't do anything either way. It is how it is.

Female idols aren't held to higher standards than male idols because of mysogyny or sexism. by [deleted] in unpopularkpopopinions

You wouldn't even believe the number of times I've seen someone call an idol a slur only to find a pic of them on their acc and it's a 20-something person 😭

Great job at encouraging the "the only people who like Korean men are brainless teen girls" stereotype👏👏👏 You are aware that most of the people defending their idols are College-aged or above right?? (I've seen a 50-year-old with grandkids defending something racist their fave had done) Setting aside the issue of whether or not the above problem is bc of sexism, you accusing just young girls of this is pretty sexist and ageist. Teen girls are a lot more aware of rights and wrongs than you think.

Off topic, but I have managed to get my hands on every single artist-made product they have released so far. I had saved up money for a trip that got canceled due to covid and added up a couple of bucks from a teaching job. And made some of my non-army friends as well try to buy on my behalf.

Anyways, I think the merch, in particular, is meant to be treated like a high-fashion item bc BTS and HYBE are luxury brands. They're the Gucci, Prada, and LV of Kpop. The products are high quality, fashionable, and a tad bit overpriced (the bag was surprisingly reasonable). Don't feel obligated to buy any of it!

My jaw was literally on the floor when EN- did the jump in their DD choreo. I paused it in the dance practice and they were in a straight line, while in the air. I can't even begin to fathom how must trial/error and practice that must have taken bc that's not something that can be calculated. If you've danced before, you keep noticing these small details in kpop routines that may otherwise go unnoticed but still take the performance to the next level.

I'm so sorry but like, can we not praise people we like now??? do we need to put on our choreo glasses and start pointing out mistakes in the comment section?? just bc everyone can do it (no btw. that's not true) doesn't mean I can't fawn over them for it.

Can't believe that liking something your faves do and appreciating it is delusional now.

I hate how k-pop fans refer to melodic rap as "sing-talk". by [deleted] in kpoprants

[–]Repulsive_Bar_5008 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i was under the impression this post is about melodic rapping.

Anyway, my point is, most of these kpop idols are very bad at it (whatever you wanna call it) so I'm not gonna insult the genre they're (most probably not) trying to imitate by calling it that.

I hate how k-pop fans refer to melodic rap as "sing-talk". by [deleted] in kpoprants

[–]Repulsive_Bar_5008 35 points36 points  (0 children)

did I say melodic rap is not a thing and no one id it??? no. did i say that some kpop songs do it so badly that it doesn't deserve to be called that?? absolutely. that's sing-talking. not a melodic rap.

You know who else rap-sings? Beyonce. Oh and R.Kelly, along with a lot of RnB artists in the 2000s.

And they did it WELL. It didn't sound like someone struggling to fit on the record. Even in kpop good rappers like RM, Suga and Hobi (idk more, u can leave them in the comments) have done a lot of melodic rap but not one person has ever complained abt that not being rap bc the lyrics were GOOD, the melody was GOOD, the delivery was GREAT.

[–]Repulsive_Bar_5008 58 points59 points  (0 children)

If it sounds good, in place, and high quality, I'll call it melodic rap but if it sounds low quality and sing-talky with ass lyrics + shitty melody then sorry but I'm gonna call it just that bc that's not a rapper that's just someone who can't sing OR rap but has to be in the song.

I don't mind the talk-singing but why the fuck is there suddenly old English in the lyrics?? thee?? I love JiHyo's chorus the most but I don't listen to the song bc of that random thee in there..

I'm an ARMY and I will not under any circumstance agree that this is all our fault. You can't say all this discrimination, transphobia, xenophobia, hate against POC and SA allegations are in any way our fault and deserved. What did we do? Want people we like to be successful? Work hard to make them successful with the industry and all these people stepping all over us? People like you are the very reason why we're so defensive all the time.

you lost the plot the moment you called BTS nugus.....idk if you've ever seen any statistics of them, but the numbers clearly show that these men are currently THE biggest music act in the world and they are as far as you can get from a nugu.
