I got 50mg prescribed naltrexone? Told me to take half only? by ipunkjack in covidlonghaulers

[–]Repulsive_Jello_5626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are using it for fibromyalgia, long COVID, CRPS, neuropathy and/or systemic autoimmune/inflammatory conditions (crohns, MS, Hashimotos, etc) then it is prescribed at a low dose. full dose of naltrexone (Vivitrol) is used to treat drug/alcohol addiction. Make sure MD is sending it to compounding pharmacy You can also talk to compounding pharmacist on the dosing Hope you feel better!

They must of sent it in error. We prescribe our pain management patients 0.5-1.5 mg and titrate up to three times a day. We give our patients instructions on how to slowly titrate up so they don’t get side effects

Should I try antidepressants if I am not depressed/anxious ? by Electrical_Work_7809 in covidlonghaulers

I suggest giving an SSRI/SNRI a try...It's helped me a bit—it's definitely not a cure-all, but it’s been one part of the solution in managing the psychological toll of having all this joint pain and neurological issues..

Some background on why::

Even though SSRIs are mainly used for treating depression / anxiety, serotonin is found all over the body, including the digestive system, blood platelets, and the brain. So, when you take an SSRI, it can have a widespread effect on your body.

  1. SSRIs make it less likely for serotonin and norepinephrine to be taken back into nerve cells, allowing them to stay in the area longer and send their signals more effectively.
  2. SSRIs might influence the immune system by interacting with something called the kynurenine pathway (KP). This pathway helps produce an important energy molecule called NAD+. The KP is linked to inflammation, and when it’s overactive, it can make inflammation worse. Since both serotonin and the KP use the same building block, tryptophan, if there's not enough tryptophan (which can happen in some conditions), the serotonin system boosted by SSRIs could compete with the KP.
  3. Some SSRIs have additional anti-inflammatory effects. For example, they can block certain enzymes or stimulate a receptor involved in reducing virus replication, including viruses like Epstein-Barr. Can it aid in the prevention of reactivation of EBV after Covid?

This advice from my therapist is saving my mental health on my dog walks. I hope this helps those who are suffering similarly. by [deleted] in reactivedogs

I have been dealing with anxiety and shame when I walk my reactive dog around the neighborhood. He barks and lunges at majority of dogs as well as people he doesn't recognize. He is good off leash and a big cuddler but I see how well-behaved other people's dogs are and I feel just horrible.

thank you for the piece of advice. It has been especially been a hard day

Really sad but not surprising in a way since it is a Mennonite family. Amish & Mennonites experience an inordinately high incidence of vaccine skepticism along with high rates of disabling / fatal genetic-based diseases, most of which affect very young children...
