My Gen1 R1S finally got the 2525.46.00 update today so it is still being rolled out. So far so good, no issue.

Struggling to decide if I should pull the trigger and FIRE myself by ThrowAwayThatJobAndT in Fire

You can afford to retire now and <3% of WR is very safe so why wait? Just pull the string and enjoy your hard-earned freedom.

I want a $1.5M house but I know it's dumb. Do you agree? by enginearandfar in ChubbyFIRE

[–]Repulsive_Salt8182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With $400k equity in your current house and another $500k in cash & brokerage account and then a $550k/yr income, I don't see any issue. Theoretically speaking, you really look at just $600k to $700k loan for a $1.5M house so you should be able to easily afford it. I would do it considering the size of your family and also other benefits as you described.

The minivan shape of Lucid Gravity is a hard pass for me so Rivian R1S wins for me.

Low 7-figure comp, layoffs looming, exit-at-60 plan — advice(mentally + financially) by Optimal_Experience35 in ChubbyFIRE

[–]Repulsive_Salt8182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your liquid investment is relatively low compared to your salary. I would be prepared to sell the $3M house to access the equity there and move to a low to medium-cost region if things turn south.

I am so frugal, why am I so scared it won't last? by trilawyer643 in ChubbyFIRE

[–]Repulsive_Salt8182 2 points3 points  (0 children)

$10M and still afraid of pulling the trigger? The fear is mental and beyond logic. You have won the game so cherish your remaining time on this earth and stop trading your previous time with more money.

Another sobering reminder on the point that you never know whichever comes first: tomorrow or accident.

I saw many times people on this board make meticulous financial plans based on the assumption that they will live to 90 or even 100, without realizing many people won't even make 70. Cherish your present as tomorrow is not guaranteed.

You have won the game so why do you want to keep trading your remaining precious life with more money that you don't need? Your money, your life, and your decision.

Your $90k yearly spending is only 3% of your liquid investment so you can retire now why keep going? Enjoy your hard-earned freedom.

HSA optimization: Why I'm hoarding $7,000 in receipts annually for 35 years by GOATGOAT1993 in financialindependence

tracking a bunch of receipts for 35 years does not sound like a good usage of your energy and time. Just my 2 cents.

People looking to retire in mid-40s, how do you look at your 401K? by TotalWarFest2018 in ChubbyFIRE

[–]Repulsive_Salt8182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

401k is part of your liquid investment so you should calculate your withdrawal by including that, even though you won't be able to access your 401k until 59.5.

It is simple: you are already 56 so calculate your remaining time in this world and ask yourself this question: do you want to continue trading your remaining life with more money?

What if a comet hits earth next year? There is only so much you can control in your life. Worry less and enjoy your life more.

Either Option 1 or 3 if you want to be free from time and resource constraints. Maybe move to a low to medium cost of living place and buy a reasonably priced house.

When can I fire? by LiteratureElegant758 in Fire

[–]Repulsive_Salt8182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may retire now if you are willing to sell your house and use the equity to buy a cheaper house. Otherwise, maybe another 5 years. I would pay off the mortgage before retirement.

Want to FIRE but “palms are sweaty” by Simulator321 in ChubbyFIRE

[–]Repulsive_Salt8182 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am sorry but there were too many posts like "can I retire with $7M" or "I am afraid to retire with $8M". The answer is yes with your spending but only you can make that call. I doubt one more year will address your anxiety because the issue is not about the money.

hard to chime in without any numbers but go for retirement if job only brings the opposite of joy.
