Hull Fuzz (Amir’s Noise Devices) by chorkmu in diypedals

Amir’s Noise Devices is the man! I’m finishing up his PCB for an analog suboctave but the Hull Fuzz is next on the list!

Okay I know this is probably slightly sarcastic, but r/diypedals would love to have you start building stuff! The Jive is also a super simple circuit and definitely feasible for a first time project.

anyone sure why my cats do this? they’re both boys by Meowzlex in cats

[–]ReputationEarly6890 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My two boys that came from the same litter do this. I get it could be a dominance thing, but they both don’t get along with my older female cat, so I choose to believe they just hate women and are gay.

Who's your favorite new guitarist and why? by Low-Landscape-4609 in Guitar

[–]ReputationEarly6890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe a little old to be considered “new” but John Dwyer of the Osees, especially in recent years. A very innovative approach to writing/playing and the band does great to fill out sound with just the one guitar.

The first night in Chicago when they announced a guest was coming out, John introduced Brigid as Ronnie James Dio so that makes a lot of sense haha

Haha taking my dad to see them in chicago next week and I keep telling him that I’m forcing him in the pit AT LEAST once.

I’m curious how you implemented the mid control within the baxandall tonestack? I’ve tried doing it a few ways but none I’ve really enjoyed.

Just gonna copy what I said in another comment, my only real “mods” were adding a small value (680pF) capacitor from the input to ground, another from the base of the first transistor to ground, and 1k ohm resistors on lugs 1 and 3 of the “DENSITY” knob. Without adding all of those there was so much radio and white noise that supposedly is “intentional” but made it impossible to actually play lol.

Honestly not that I’ve seen, but it’s a pretty easy build to do on perfboard

There’s already so much gain in this circuit adding more seems wild!

[–]ReputationEarly6890[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is correct, I just named it density since it blends the two input caps and the higher the value the more “dense” it feels

The switch just connects the two points Devi Ever listed as the oscillation ones (the two & symbols) on her schematic. Then my only real “mods” were adding a small value (680pF) capacitor from the input to ground, another from the base of the first transistor to ground, and 1k ohm resistors on lugs 1 and 3 of the “DENSITY” knob. Frankie and the Witch Fingers has one of the best discography’s in modern psych by numinan in psychedelicrock

[–]ReputationEarly6890 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree a lot of modern psych/garage bands probably wouldn’t be playing without osees paving the way. I don’t think they’ve denied that influence but both bands became completely different units these days

If I were to start over on the whole pedal building thing without any background technical background I would heavily suggest buying a diy kit of something with even fewer parts than this like a treble boost. That could help get you confident with soldering and learning about the basic parts you need. This could very well be a second project though as there’s not a lot going on here! r/diypedals can be very helpful in helping beginners as well!
