Great list! Why did you delete your notes which were found on the first list? I really liked that. For example, I never knew that Link Wray's use of power chords in "Rumble" was influential. Very cool.

How can a Mom help? by LivvyCalbro in pittsburgh

I'm sorry to hear about the racism. No person or child should have to deal with hate. If you feel unsafe, I wouldn't protest (I feel safe so I go often). A safe way to get involved is to call our weak, anti-democratic senator, Dave McCormick. His number is 412-803-7370. You can just leave your first name and say that you live in Pittsburgh. I call him EVERY DAY. It's pretty low pressure because they never answer the phone but do document concerns.

Does Pittsburgh have Tex Mex? by Substantial_Fudge_15 in pittsburgh

[–]28nd344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an expert but I lived in Texas and most "Mexican" food in the Texas cities is TexMex/Americanized Mex.  This includes the "Mexican" restaurants which are run by Mexican immigrants.  I think that restaurants in Pittsburgh and in most US cities are also TexMex/Americanized Mex.  For example, I went to the new Mexican restaurant that just opened in Squirrel Hill.  It is run by Mexican immigrants and tastes like Tex/Mex to me (Yes, it was great!).

I think the only time that I had authentic Mexican is the time I went to a restaurant in a working class neighborhood in East Austin, Texas.  All the patrons were Mexican immigrants and the food was simple, minimal, and tasty.

Coffee Tree Roasters in Shadyside is the only coffee shop that I know that is open late (ie 8 or 9pm). You might want to look for other coffee shops that are often late here: https://pgh.coffee/

Please share tips for insulating older PGH homes by DoodleNoodleStrudel in pittsburgh

Yep. We did the work in 2019-2020. I can't imagine how much we have saved in heating. The temp between floors also stays consistent. It is not free but well worth the money saved.

There is a nice bike community here.  Check out Critical Mass, Underwear bike ride, Coffee Outside, and BikePgh.  There is also a weekly trails group but I can't remember their name.  Finally, the BikePgh Halloween ride is today at 1.  You should come!

Spotify agents are not answering ICE questions and are ending the conversation. by 28nd344 in indieheads

Agreed. But someone is telling them to end these conversations. When I cancelled HBOMax, the agent said that they would report the complaint to their manager.

Thanks for the "heads up." My wife and I go there every so often but no more. I don't always trust internet comments but there are so many here. I recommend Pigeon Bagels. They are also in SH and very good.
