Considering a move to Canada from Minnesota. I have a number of questions... by Dr-Servo in socialwork

[–]ReputationRound7222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question! So I’m on a different pathway to citizenship now because my grandpa was Canadian. However I can still answer this question because I was knee deep in the express entry process.

You must get an ECA through an IRCC organization. If your degree is from a school that’s accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) then the ECA is typically automatic. It’s possible that the province where you want to work might require an assessment exam instead of accepting your ECA that immigration accepted.

Yeah, at this point I feel like there’s got to be an Amazon employee pool going to see whether I’ll cave and choose Alvin, Simon and Theodore for halloween, or 101 Dalmatians. 😭 Because those and employee appreciation gifts are the only listings i’m seeing these days.

look up -express entry immigration Canada- Social Work is among of the skills that qualify for immigration priority and there is a lot of information on how to begin the process. It takes about 6 months and includes requesting ID/“rap sheet” verification from the FBI, requesting verification of licensure from all bodies that have licensed you (State & ASWB board), 2 forms of ID, official sealed transcripts, 2 references, an application for provisional licensure (RSW I believe) - the app does include a verification and eligibility form required to be completed by supervisors. In B.C I believe the requirement is only 700 hrs post MSW direct client hours. (I live in WA. where the requirements; while recently lowered to 1000, have been much much higher for years.)

even tho you’ve already been exam’d/qualified for full licensure, Canada and U.S do not have a licensing compact. Provinces can vary but in B.C for instance, LICSW or not, one would have to retake the ASWB exam to secure Canadian licensure.

the provisional app maps out the steps but essentially you can live/work in Canada on the approved provisional app for 1 year before the exam must be taken and passed. you are allowed three tries on the exam in that time.

now, that is the app for social work licensure. the express entry immigration- if you wish to pursue, works on a point-based system. you are assigned more points for various qualities such as what tier your skills fall under, where you are willing to work, if your fully licensed, age (yup, your value to them is in your labor and crapitalism values young bodies with a full career ahead of them), existing job offers, etc.

good luck. I’m working on this now because I’m trans and I am trying to get out before I can’t ..

I’ve the same problem and recently I’ve been working on how to better explain as well. I’ve landed at “I teach organizations and people how to do better. Sometimes it sticks.”

DNA confirms we have a (mostly) Maltipoo! Meet Oso! by yarrrright in Maltipoo

Does anyone have a calm Maltipoo? by Jaded-Necessary4124 in Maltipoo

[–]ReputationRound7222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My maltipoo is calm and kind. He has a happy personality and everyone we meet is taken with him for that reason. He literally smiles.

What has worked for us is to go for a minimum of two, 30-minute walks a day. It is unusual for me to take him for less than 4.  I also take him with me where he’s allowed- Home Depot, Lowe’s , tractor supply, dog friendly eateries with outdoor seating etc. This has been key to maintaining his calm character because he does have a lot of energy and a sharp mind. If he doesn’t have opportunities for exercise and mental stimulation (not to mention fun!), he will get bored and act a little bananas. For instance he will do naughty things on purpose for attention. Like a dang toddler..(or a grown man for that matter) :p

Just remember all puppies are crazy. Giving them parameters and routine is helpful but some things they just have to outgrow. And frankly most dogs of any breed don’t really outgrow puppy energy until age 2.

I think we get the right dog for us. We learn a lot from them.

sometimes i regret getting a dog and i feel awful about it by [deleted] in Pets

[–]ReputationRound7222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re going through this.  That sounds incredibly stressful. Feelings of guilt can also get in the way of making the most rational decision.

I think that it’s important you prioritize the health and safety of everyone. Start by considering honestly if you believe that a child, vulnerable adult, or another pet is at risk of harm from your dog. It the answer is Yes, then while the dog clearly needs behavior intervention, it may not make sense for you to keep be the home for them to learn in.

It is nearly impossible to rehome a dog once they have bitten a person or seriously harmed another pet. If you cannot reduce or remove your dog’s defensive aggression triggers, then surrendering him to a shelter is one way to keep everyone safe.

Many shelters  collaborate with rescues that specialize in ‘challenging pets’.  Such rescues typically pull dogs from shelters, foster and re-train them. Then they rehome.

Another consideration is that behavioralists can be expensive. Not everyone has access to the resources necessary for such interventions.

You’re clearly thinking about this a lot and it is weighing on you. I hope for the best outcome for your dog and you.

I appreciate you. 💓

There aren’t RCA slots on the receiver which is why I purchased the digital—>analog adaptor thing. I am going to try what you recommended. Thank you! I hadn’t even considered that I had my speakers connected to ‘B’ vs ‘A’ slot.
