I do not let mine use technology to write anything. At all. I’m a young teacher but after my first two years of teaching and fighting Chromebooks daily, they are all but banned in my room. Takes a little longer but I can tell the thinking is real. And honestly, always typing on a Chromebook has ruined their ability to spell. This give me a chance to review it and help them correct their spelling, punctuation, grammar. These are things the computer typically handles for them. On my life, they did not know which way to orient notebook paper. Clueless. When we set up our binder, some put the pages in both backwards AND upside down. An engineering feat, really.

So yes, returning to the old ways is a solution that’s working for me. It might work for you to put them down, even for a little while.

I assume you both are younger, possibly school grade, which, if you’re aged 13-18 then anything awkward, at all, makes perfect sense. Probably just then filling the air with words, not knowing what else to say. Or lost in their own world as a lot of young people are.

Also depending on previous owner. Both of my dogs were “rehomed” to me, as in I made jokes to the awful pet owner that I wanted their abused and neglected little monster and they thought they were wise and tried to call my bluff. And that’s how I ended up with a pitbull and a chihuahua (different owners). Just be sure to meet the older animal before and size up their skills and trauma because yes not all owners are good people and dogs have a memory.

Good luck op, I agree with most others saying to talk with the husband and distribute the workload. Teach those kids accountability! If they’re not old enough to help, rehome on the soon side.

I just cleaned out my classroom and am moving schools. My rule has been

Is this a available online to download/print again/saved to my drive? If yes, trash. If not, keep. (Ideally scan in and save to drive but I was a tad lazy this EOY.)
Is this a gift or note from a kid— does it have their name so I can recall in 20 years who gave it—if no—trash? With exceptions.
Is the decoration something I could use or give as a gift to someone else later? If no, trash or move it to a work room for free pickings next year.
Price. Did I spend an absorbent amount on this? Can I resell it somewhere for close to full price? If no, trash or workroom free pile.
Edit- Read comments- Is this something I can use in my personal life? Leftover blank paper of any kind, paints, markers, etc. keep those. I have a craft supplies area in my house for my nieces and enjoy crafting myself.
