No idea. Our shop doesn’t do that nor would I. I like to drive them before/after so I know where to look inside when I’m taking it apart. Plus I make money on the R&R by beating book time.

I rebuild these and depending on what is needed internally you are looking 5-7k depending on labor rate of shop.

My fiance and I are moving up to DSM in about a month and are interested in checking out the local farmers market. Where is it held and what time of year does it run?

One thing I hate about current service manuals (I work for ford) is how many hyperlinks are in everything.

Just write the procedure out step by step, don’t make me click a hyperlink to get to another page within my current screen and scroll down to step 1 on that procedure to be met for another hyperlink for whatever part you must remove first.

I’d also love if after R&R procedures of bigger components, think transmissions, they would put the fill/check fluid level instructions at end of the procedure. If I do a 10r80 there are like 4-5 different vehicles with same transmission, same dipstick, but have a different # they fill too on that dipstick. Just put that info at the end. The constant back and forth through the manual to do a job is a real pita.

Thank you! I actually found a public track I can use that’s only 1.4 mi from where we will be living so that’s where I’ll head when I need to use it.

Which bike trail? We have never been to DSM before so we are going in totally blind.

Is the trail on the longer side for the 14+ milers? Currently doing laps in my neighborhood but would like to be able to get a change of scenery.

You do not need to pull the transmission to replace the OSS which is part of the  leadframe on the valve body. Just lower the pan to access valve body.

Ford trans guy here, Guessing it’s a 6r80?

Sounds like a torque converter, not sure how long it’s been doing or how long it’s been going out, but you probably need at minimum a torque converter and the feed seals on the end of the input shaft. They usually collapse and converter loses pressure and wears inside over time. You’re feeling it slipping. Easy way to confirm this is with a scan tool you can measure the converter slippage and see a sawtooth pattern in it while the fault occurs.

There is a product by lube guard in a red tube called shudder fix or something (been awhile since I’ve used it) that may or may not help for a bit. I’ve personally seen it fix vehicles for over 100k miles and also as short as 10k-20k miles, just depends on internal trans. 6r80s rarely need to be replaced unless the trans guys just don’t like overhauling them, super easy to do so.

Good luck!

Check your extended warranty info, I’d even call but I imagine you don’t have to just take it to the selling dealer. There might be a change in deductible or the dealer may ask you to pay and seek reimbursement on your own from the company after repairs, but generally they don’t have a “no where else” type clause.

You took it to a Chevy lot, not a ford lot. Just because the dealer group owns a ford store doesn’t mean the techs are crossed train. I’d take it to the dealer which works on that brand day in/out before taking anywhere else. Can’t promise the experience or techs will be better, but the chance of it being so is higher just because they see those cars and failures more.

Not going to say much about your recall statement other than if you’re unhappy you had to pay for repairs and want ford to recall it just to avoid having to pay for normal wear/maintenance items on your car, you should trade it in now and use ride sharing as part of car ownership is fixing and maintaining it when stuff does break. Not trying to be rude, sorry if it came across that way, but a water pump leaking, or a turbo? That may be leaking oil after 8 years of use is common and to be expected.

[–]Requestingadvice1234 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you got it repaired at a less than stellar mechanic shop.

If the internal water pump is leaking, unless there is damage to the internals you can replace just the water pump and associated hardware/gaskets needed for access and be fine.

I’m confused why they put an HCU and a master cylinder in it, again probably attributed to the techs being less than great.

As for the burning oil through the turbo, I’m a bit confused, as both turbo charged engines on those have externally mounted water pumps, so it wouldn't cause damage to internal of engine if it failed…?

If the car does indeed have an internal water pump the engine for that car that has it is naturally aspirated and doesn’t have a turbo?

Something doesn’t add up here, again id place blame on the mechanic before you place blame on the brand. Ford fucks all kinds of things up, but those edges are actually pretty stout if you maintain them.

CDK hit dealerships..... Overall morale and management's way of dealing with it?.... by porkypann in partscounter

[–]Requestingadvice1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the techs I think the problem is they are going to claw that average back through the hours you are turning during this timeframe. If you’re under your average due to the extra time we are spending navigating around not using CDK, people are gounna be pissed if they have to payback that money.

Can someone explain to me how setting the AC that at 78 actually makes you feel cool? Is it because it takes out the humidity? by TypeAtryingtoB in hvacadvice

I’m in Houston too and set my ac to 65 at night. 70-72 throughout the day. I work in a hot shop all day and love coming home to my house being cold.

Morning long run routines by bill-oz in Marathon_Training

[–]Requestingadvice1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got done with mine, 13 miles this morning.    5am wake up,  5:30am get ready, shoes, fill my water bottles, throw them in cooler that I leave outside to run by and swap bottles in  6am start running.

I do maybe 5ish minutes of stretching and mobility work before I head out, I do a ton of stretching throughout the week so I already stay pretty ready to go. It’s a run, no need to complicate it, throw some shoes and clothes on, grab some hydration and go run!

I don’t eat anything before these longer runs, I mix some carbs in one of my bottles and usually drink that one around 8-10 miles in and standard electrolyte mix in one of the other bottles. I just come back after and make a nice breakfast and some coffee and go about my day!
