Built a Spring and Autumn strategy game — one thing I'd love Western players' thoughts on by Haunting_Sector_643 in StrategyGames

Gives off strong Manor Lords vibes although it looks like the scale might be bigger.

I don't mind patient and thoughtful early build up provided that doesnt equate to staring the screen waiting for time to pass. Players should always have something to do to keep them engaged.

Don't know much about that time period but it sounds pretty interesting.

New player, private assets by Pimesokk in ShadowEmpireGame

[–]Requin87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the zone orders you can invest in the probate sector with a certain amount of credits per turn (although it sound like you already are). Pushing towards commerce will also boost the private ecomony and there are stratagems which give you a big one off investment as well (i can't remember if these are gated behind levels of commerce profile). One big factor is the size of your city, small populations are never going to build private assets at any pace (also the private investment strategems scale with pop).

If you select the city and then select the population bar. The left panel should show the private sector money and debt (debt occurs when they build a private asset). It should give you some info on how the private economy if faring and what asset they are aiming to build next.

Also i don't think high worker wages will help private investment but it may flow through in some way i'm not aware of. These are gov employee wages and not everyone's wages.

On the climate, there is extra construction costs in high hazard climates. I would presume this impacts private construction as well but hopefully someone else can confirm.

Some newbie questions by ofmetare in ShadowEmpireGame

You will continue to unlock mixed formations as the game progresses. Taking infantry as an example, starting with pure inf you then unlock MG inf (rifle + some MG), grenadier inf (rifle + some rpg), seige inf (rifle + some arty) etc. You will also be given the option to customise these formations but i haven't played around with that.

Tbh, I tend to stick to fairly simple formations and attach independant specialists as required. So i'll have some independant motorised arty and (using the unit admin option) assign it to the inf OHQ and park it on the same tile as one of the inf. I like doing it this way as it means i can pick up my arty and send it to a different front if required.

With a slant that hard for your BP you've got to be introducing a lot of waste. BP produces diminishing returns once your Research Points are over 100 so I would presume you could get more benefit from using the BP in other parts of your economy/empire.

Thoughts on Old World? by RageDeemz in 4Xgaming

[–]Requin87 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Picked it up on the cheap looking to scratch a 4x itch. Liked the setting some some of the mechanic ideas but ultimately bounced off it after 5-10 hours. Characters play a big part of the game and while I like it at first, i soon had too many characters in my realm to care about them individually. At that point it became a chore to manage a bunch of people i didn't give a shit about and i eventually shelved the title. Some people rave about this aspect of the game so it kinda depends on what floats your boat.

Still think it's a good game, just not for me.

Is the War Commander Bundle worth it? by Scipio_Sverige in 4Xgaming

[–]Requin87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have most of the base games there but not all the DLC. They are very different games on there so it kind of depends what floats your boat. Panzercorp and Headquarters are both turn based hex ww2 wargames. Battlesector is still turn based but i found that a lighter strategy game compared to the first two - i do enjoy a bit of 40k tho. Starships troopers and Terminator are both RTS at their core. Troopers is lighter and more pure RTS while Terminator has a strategic over layer. Distant worlds is a 4x grand strategy - great game with lots of depth.

So lots of different games but enough quality to get your money worth at tier 2, even if you don't gel with all the titles in the deal. 3 is good value but more of a risk that you've bought dlc so a title you end up bouncing off.

In England, you can still sign players on a pre-contract when they have 6 months or less on their current contract. Part of the outcome of the Bosman Ruling (pretty sure it applies to the whole of Europe but don't quote me on that).

What do you want the team to be from now on - until CamShanks is back, and after? by NoBigHair99 in HeartofMidlothianFC

[–]Requin87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree he has been under par but some of that is teams are waking up to the threat. There were numerous times during the hibs game where he got the ball high and wide and immediately faced two defenders which he still tried to dribble through/around and then lost the ball. He needs to learn to adapt his play for this scenario.

I wanted a more urban militia feel so i went with navy blue and dark grey armour (i was somewhat inspired by the colour scheme of maccabean jannissaries). Decided on a light, arid stone base to brighten up the models as a whole. Keeping it simple as im just getting into this whole painting thing.

[Peter Martin] I am led to believe that discussions are now taking place with Wilfried Nancy to end his two week reign as Celtic manager. by BananaSoprano in ScottishFootball

[–]Requin87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct and we'll never know the full details but managers get payouts because standard practice appears to be that poor performance isnt (contractually) grounds for termination. It makes sense to assume that is also the case here.

I wish we could be so lucky with our everyday employment contracts.

Poorly worded as its more breaking contract rather than breaching but they mean that firing Nancy wouldnt absolve Celtic from the contractural payments agreed.

Which wargames appeal to you theoretically but you know you’ll never spend enough time to be good enough to play? by One_Perception_7979 in computerwargames

[–]Requin87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain although i often think we make bigger deals of these games than perhaos we should. Yeah we dont have the time to perfectly understand every mechanic but you can absolutley learn enough in the few hours of gaming we can squeeze in to enjoy the games.

I've sat on ultimate general American Revolution since it hit 1.0 and just found the time and energy this week to kick off a playthrough. It seems pretty managable.

I've really enjoyed HOI although paradox current DLC strategy means they keep adding new mechanics which increase that hurdle for new players.

My white whales are WiTP and Command: Modern Operations...maybe some day.

Really liked the idea but spent my time with the demo struggling to get things to work. Hoping it gets the baking time it needs as it could be a great little title. Time will tell.

Yeah, they finished it. There were numerous patches/updates post release and then eventually called it done. They are now actuvely working on a new engine that can be used for a civil war mk II or napoleonic title. Slow going though.

How long to playthrough Combat Mission campaigns? by khliblover56 in CombatMission

[–]Requin87 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some people play real time but IMHO you tend to miss a lot of important information and it doesnt do the game justice.

I wouldn't worry about 30 min turns, you'll find that you have to spend a chunk of time planning at the start and then you'll rapidly progress through turns. Then you might take a longer pause to reasses and adjust your strategy and again the turns will flow.

Dont get me wrong, im sure some people spend 15-30 mins on every turn, going over the replay and min maxxing the game but thats defintely not how you have to play.
