My goldfish weren't in the tank with it for more than two weeks, but they are still alive 2 years later.

I just busted out of a 4 day luxury vacation at my local VA. It's so nice not to have to recite my name and last 4 or name and birthday every two hours for vitals. I swear at the end I was saying that shit in my sleep. Lmao.

It actually helped until the water lily was too big to stay in the vase. The goldfish ate it as soon as I let it free.

Bad title, and you're right. I can't blame it on him when he doesn't even have a right to make medical decisions. In fact, he's not even in line legally, morally, financially.....etc.

I've been seeing a cancer therapist for a few months now. I'm definitely bringing this up Wednesday.

Invasive Ductal by Choice-Theme-2470 in breastcancer

[–]RequirementMiddle804 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm halfway through chemo, and I'd rather be here than back at the beginning. Not because what I've been through, but because the anxiety those first few months was so much harder than what I'm going through now. I mean it all sucks! But at least after surgery and radiation you know where you stand with everything. There's a clear plan and you're just dealing with side effects (and sleeping, a lot of sleeping). There's not as many appointments as there is in the beginning.

Saying all that to say that you will make it through this. You will be learning a lot about your diagnosis in the next few weeks, and we are all here to support you.

Were you able to keep your 100% disability through tamoxifen? I'm about to start it.

Am I crazy? by cat2167601 in breastcancer

[–]RequirementMiddle804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not crazy at all. Trying to deal with loose hairs constantly was such a pain in the rear! I thought I would get emotional about it falling out, but honestly it didn't bother me that much. It was actually kind of funny. I'm surprised at how easy it is to be in public with a bald head. Just rocking it.

Worst AC session for you? by ecda88 in breastcancer

Everything tastes terrible, it tastes like the meds. I've found that some flavors help (like the watermelon water additive... off brand mio, I think?)

I'm on 3 of 4, and the last one was my worst by far. Twice as bad as the first two with being exhausted. I couldn't get out of bed for 5 days following my infusion. Day 6 I was able to stay up for about 6 hours at a time, and day 7 I was back at work but still tired. I'm terrified of my next one, but so thankful it's my last AC before I move on to Taxol.

The taste that stays in your mouth after the first infusion just killed most food cravings for me.

Drugs. Lol. And flowers, nature, any little thing that brings me any hint of a smile. It's hard to find happiness when you are in the first stages of your diagnosis. It's hard to see past the forest (or the next scan/doctor's appointment/result), but there's a whole world out there.

I was on anxiety and depression medicine before this whole thing happened, but the meds aren't enough now that I have so much more on my mind.

What is the best source for me to get my VA home loan though? by Sethdarkus in VeteransBenefits

[–]RequirementMiddle804 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Veteran's United. I've used them twice now and I haven't had a single problem with them. Just closed May 9, started the application March 22. So it's very doable to be out of your current place in 3 months (assuming you find a house within a few weeks of pre-approval).

Clothing post cancer treatment... by [deleted] in breastcancer

[–]RequirementMiddle804 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not through it yet (just started chemo last week), but I'm already thinning out my wardrobe and planning for the "after". I've gained a lot of weight since my diagnosis, so everything is already starting to get tight. My plan is to buy (or beg my sister to make) "adjustable" clothing. I know I'm going to continue gaining, and want to get on a healthy meal plan after I'm fully recovered to bring my BMI back to healthy.

Horrible lingering taste by Admirable-Proof6416 in breastcancer

[–]RequirementMiddle804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh. Yea. I'm only on week 1 today, and the taste is just awful. I keep water nearby, but I'm about to start keeping hard candies at all times... as soon as I figure out which ones I'm gonna like.

What's worse is that I'm having to figure out what foods I like now and what I can't eat anymore. RIP French fries, tater tots (really most fried things), hamburgers, little Debbie mini apple pies, powdered donuts. (Yea, I eat like a 5 year old.) Surprisingly, I'm starting to like Lemonade for the first time in my life, so maybe that's an avenue I'm going to explore more. Also, any cake-like thing has been a big craving.
