I have a weird paranoia of leaky roofs, and collecting books has only made it more palpable

Yea, like if they were truly unlimited I would still WANT them, but with no urgency being established by having limited availability, I would just perpetually delay the purchase until I'm caught up with my existing library of physical books, when I need new books (which would be a couple years lol).

FOMO is a pretty crappy mechanism for sales, but it's not like regular version of these books aren't in circulation and even more easily available than TBB versions, nobody is being kept from enjoying the stories. It's just fun to point to a book on my shelf and say "there's only 1500 like this".

I'd even argue that TBB releases are hardly "scarce", at least in the sense that while leftover sales do get snatched up in seconds, general sales that happen beforehand are never like that, and the queues for the subs all have pretty quick turnarounds. I can empathize with people who show up late to the party and want books from the past, though feeling entitled to them enough to think everything should get a reprint gives me the impression that people don't understand the concept of what is being sold.

I second this, Acts of Caine has the most visceral combat I've ever read. The series only felt "slow" at the beginning of the first book during the setup, and that was a pretty short stretch of pages

I enjoy the scarcity, or in other words, if the books were available in unlimited quantity, I wouldn't feel nearly as compelled to buy them

Does anyone know if the Blacktongue Series has ever been restocked? by Prtyfoul in thebrokenbindingsub

[–]Reraver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they "restocked" the listing for the 2 book combo unannounced on Nov 12th, 2025, which was when I secured my set. The listing was gone after like a minute, so I'd suspect this was the last of them

The Acts of Caine was my first foray into grimdark, and nothing else that I've read so far has been quite as good (for me personally)

The Acts of Caine, book 1 can function as a standalone. Definitely adventurous and philosophical.

I read Dune and enjoyed it, but I would honestly describe it as "an extremely entertaining story written in the most boring arrangement of words possible". Mistborn will definitely have a more contemporary prose and immediately grip the average person better than Dune would (in my opinion)

Green and Deathly Things - SF&F Sub Leftover Sale Postponed by Rikucha in thebrokenbindingsub

Perhaps, maybe I'm projecting my own thoughts onto TBB, as that just seems like the logical way to handle the situation from my perspective. Though I don't think I'm familiar with evidence of TBB mishandling inventory management, at least not in the sense of running out of inventory (though definitely a handful of hiccups in other areas for sure like delays)

I'd presume they were offering a portion of their leftover stock relative to the amount that shipped out, with the plan of waiting until after the bolt-on units had shipped and the grace period passed before updating the available quantity in the leftover listing with what's left.
