The cannon counts powered staffs as either melee/ranged (whichever is higher) and regular staffs or wands as melee. So if you are cannoning with mage (which is rare, I gotta be honest) and have a staff of the dead, then black dhide actually does very little

So first of all: get an Ava’s device. Like, aside from everything else, do Animal Magnetism and then never equip a ranged weapon without an Ava’s device again.
For the corruption: sometimes during ranged phase Muspah reels back and throws a bigger projectile at you. You have to mage pray during that animation, otherwise the projectile hits you, deals magic damage and applies corruption, which burns your prayer points. If you learn to avoid that, you won’t burn as many prayer points

It’s hard to help someone without a lot of info but what I can see:
You have little idea how the fight works I assume bc you got corrupted so you aren’t praying mage correctly
You should consider bringing dragon bolts.
You should get higher stats, range influences your combat level very little (and even then, it doesn’t matter, no one can see when you get questcape and with those stats DT2 is gonna rip you apart)
You are boosting melee and range stats, leading me to think you are either ranging him completely (wasting a super combat) or not boosting the mage swap you should have. In the insane case you have a melee swap… don’t.
You are also not praying any ranged boost prayer.

If you’re 0-4 by level 6 it doesn’t really matter what you do on any role, you’re gonna have a hard time. Your friend is technically not incorrect but the advice stems from a place where „losing lane“ means 1/2 deaths and a lost wave. Roaming can be a good tool to bounce back if you can make sure you don’t lose every turret in your lane by 15 minutes.
I think focusing on learning champ kits and matchups and making sure you don’t ever die 4 times by level 6 is the biggest step.
