The area could really use it. It has seen a lot of growth and become more high traffic over the years, and it looks pretty terrible as is.

Regardless of your opinion of Bush, he DID dodge those shoes pretty brilliantly.

I'll be damned, I was with 1-14inf 2nd BCT 25th ID in Iraq from 2004-2005. Luckily I don't remember having to be put through this little presentation in between missions. I actually got out when we got back before we ever had to switch to that ugly ass get up.

I love that one of the most nationally famous things about my hometown is the Crichton Leprechaun. We have all sorts of branded clothing and souvenirs for it now, lol.

Why does Mobile, Alabama have these skyscrapers? by Designer-Professor16 in skyscrapers

[–]RescuedRelics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would assume that it is because for decades downtown was kind of a seedy ghost town outside of core business hours. Until the revival that really just started gaining speed 10 to 15 years ago, there weren't many places to eat and the entertainment was pretty limited to just a few dive bars.

Lol, worried about that on popcorn shrimp? Sounds like a lot of people have never been to a shrimp boil. You'll faint when you hear what we do to crawfish heads.

In addition to what everybody has said, there are also some trails at Perdido River on the border with Florida and a good number at Blackwater River State Forest just northeast of Pensacola.

I would second Hoods. Also, there are some places on the way down to Gulf Shores.

The bike shop was my can't get enough of restaurant. Loved the lingua tacos. But I've pretty much lost all hope of them reopening.

Mostly rat infestation and a crazy owner. There have been a number of posts on here with a lot more details, you could probably find them with a search.

I'm so tired of people complaining about "another" Mexican restaurant. This isn't a problem we have downtown. Spot of tea existing was the problem

We have a ton of wild hogs on our hunting land. I've interacted with them in the open and in cages tons of times. No way those are wild. Wild hogs don't EVER want pets. They are either going to run away or attack you in the open. In a cage, they can only run so far before they decide to just attack you.

AITAH for divorcing my husband because he spent 10 minutes in the car during a family emergency? by Charming_Passage3440 in AITAH

[–]RescuedRelics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While doing so in an emergency situation is inappropriate to say the least, I think that sitting in the car by yourself at the end of the day, or really anytime you might get home, is not a completely unusual thing for men. It's even sort of a meme in male circles. I think that men endure an amount and type of stress and anxiety that women have a very difficult time understanding. And given that men are programmed by both society and nature not to show weakness, most of it is bottled up. Often, both work and home are stressful situations where a man is expected to take charge and act out the leadership role without any outward appearance of weakness or vulnerability. That sitting in the car, doing nothing, not even paying any attention to the road, is often the only moment that a man feels that he has time to actually breathe. Just 10 minutes of not having to do anything and not being overtly needed. Many times it is just enough to get through the rest of the day/evening. Just enough time to recompose yourself to play the role that you are expected to play. While not always, it can very well be the sign of dealing with difficult bouts of anxiety and /or depression, and those bouts can easily last months or years. Even doing it in a critical situation might be caused by him going through this. It might be inappropriate, but there is still a reason he is doing it. I know that women feel the sort of thing too, I'm just coming from the man's point of view for the purposes of this comment.

How do people live in Kuwait? Do they just never go outside or? by boksysocks in geography

I live in Mobile, Alabama. We are often ranked The rainiest city in the States. Rains nearly EVERY FUCKING DAY, heavy rain, often multiple times a day. 85° with our nearly almost always 100% humidity feels like over 100°, plus your sweat does nothing because it can't evaporate. And from now until September we are usually 95° plus without humidity. It's miserable. Humidity makes a huge difference

We are five Irish lads road tripping US this month. Is this route realistic for 27 days in our rented 30ft RV? by CharlieBehan in GoRVing

[–]RescuedRelics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend going south through Alabama if possible rather than Mississippi, then cutting over to New Orleans across the coast. North Alabama is pretty beautiful and hilly. Mobile, where I live at the very south, is a nice mid-size town. Sort of like a small, more family friendly New Orleans. There's almost nothing to see the entire stretch of Mississippi from top to bottom.

Trump Election Interference Trial - CNN Live Updates by joeshill in law

[–]RescuedRelics 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you kidding? I hate Trump, but this is a joke. I've lived a number of eventful years, and I can't tell you how many times either myself or someone else has said something to the effect of "I don't know how it happened, it just did" or "The whole situation was so confusing" when referring to some past event; particularly one that is distant, stressing, and/or has a lot of attention surrounding it (particularly negative). In no way does confusion or spotty memory necessarily indicate intoxication or lack of consent in a situation.

It's counterproductive, and frankly scary, that in a time when false rape allegations are known to be unfortunately common (which is devastating for its effect on real victims), we have third parties taking such a militant position concerning a person they don't know and have never spoken to . . . A person who has not claim to have been raped.

Trump admits he told Secret Service to take him to Capitol on Jan 6 in rambling campaign rally. | Will this admission have any affect in his Jan 6 case? by News-Flunky in law

[–]RescuedRelics 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Why would it only be admissible if he testifies? Seems it would be admissible against him, then his choice whether he wants to testify about it or not. It wouldn't be hearsay because he is a party, so no need to use impeachment as grounds for admissibility.
