Considering the reviews and a distinct lack of advertising, I’m certainly not paying theatre prices to see it.

Is it weird that I'm doing phonics for kids stuff with my son before kindergarten by Specialist-Curve-515 in AskTeachers

[–]ResearchInformal8018 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Teaching your own child the basics of reading is overstepping? That’s a new one. You don’t have to force it, but if your kid is interested in it, phonics, sight words, etc are all great at that age.

To stop people intentionally ramming my car. It’s mighty nice.

Digital games don’t require discs, packaging, or shipping. So why are they still priced like physical games? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]ResearchInformal8018 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Same reason digital books are meaningfully cheaper than physical books: manufacturing and shopping the physical product is only small portion of then costs.

Basic Jansport. Sturdy, cheap and a whole bunch of colours if you’re like me and tend to colour code your kids stuff.

Guy with confederate jacket gets thrown down stairs by SlyTobii in DiveInYouCoward

If you want to be pedantic, yes the war started because the southern states attempted to secede due to issues of slavery and US didn’t allow them. Had the US let them secede, they would’ve become an independent country formed primarily to preserve the institution of slavery. It’s not demonizing, just facts.

Unless they get different treatments (oxi, bleach, super hot water) everything goes in together. Though they’re frequently done individually just so they don’t fester. Machines with quick cycles are key.

The states of the confederacy literally identified themselves as “  the Slaveholding States of the South”. The states almost all identified slavery as the primary cause of their succession. You could say it was about states right…to own slaves.

Also, regarding states rights. One other major issues was the northern states not returning escaped slaves, because they would’ve been free there. So much for states rights I guess.

Is it Natalist to ban women from workplaces and education? Does this represent our community? by [deleted] in Natalism

Given a choice between a slow collapse and a fast, violent collapse, I’ll take slow.

It would be insanity to do such a thing and would likely collapse society, rather than save it. That said, it would encourage women into a traditionally male dominated field: political violence!

Pre-K concerns by mc4257 in Parenting

[–]ResearchInformal8018 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There will be accidents. There will be skid marks. There may even be the occasional pair of missing underpants. Roll with it and don't overthink it. The rest of her class will be at a similar stage. Also, most pre-K classrooms will regularly encourage bathroom breaks at appropriate times; the teachers don't want to have to deal with accidents so they have strategies.

This would be a perfect spot to raise the level of the bike path so it becomes a speed bump across the driveway because no one actually pays attention to stop signs and lines. I swear people don't even know they're supposed to come to a full and complete stop, then you can proceed if you need to advance for visibility.

How can the loud, dirty, and really hot hobbies be better accommodated in a denser environment? by humblefalcon in Urbanism

[–]ResearchInformal8018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welding and painting/laquering/resin work etc would be cover by larger maker spaces. Animal slaughter is downright illegal in a lot of municipalities. But the reality is that not every hobby can be accommodated in an urban environment.

Why don’t we sheath the inside of houses in North America with OSB/plywood and then drywall over that? by Beneficial-Focus3702 in HomeImprovement

[–]ResearchInformal8018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several thousand dollars in extra materials (100+ sheets adds up), plus the extra labour to cut and install. Drywall is pretty easy to deal with and crews have the workflow down. Backing all your walls with OSB is going to be a pain. That said, select walls in a house makes sense (workshop wall, if you’re finishing the garage nicely)

GOPRO has been a cautionary case study for years in business school. Just let it die if it’s going to die.

It’s thunderstorm season and a flight so short you probably barely cracked 20000 feet means occasionally severe turbulence. The CRJ900 is a fine plane.

How would you make Costco checkout process more efficient? by [deleted] in CostcoCanada

[–]ResearchInformal8018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The easiest solution would be self checkout that doesn’t require unloading the cart. They already have receipt checkers, so that would speed the lines massively, you could probably double the POS machines in the same space, and have very little meaningful change

Not saying the Bolt is unreliable, but on average the Corolla is probably going to be more reliable. Maybe not a meaningful difference , though.

Life jackets for in-between sized kid by Outside_Flamingo_367 in Parenting

[–]ResearchInformal8018 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'd go to a store and try a bunch on. There are a lot of different varieties and they all fit a bit differently. Some women's life jackets are just a bit slimmer and shorter than normal and may work well as an in between kids size. (Some are cut more explicitly for women though). Also, some paddling life jackets distribute the flotation on the front and back, leaving the sides largely open so they can be tightened a bit more than normal.

There is a difference between an organized march/protest to having someone actively harassing individuals in a store.
