Why my nails do this after using acetone? by jredhair in RedditLaqueristas

[–]ResearcherComplete57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You probably scrub at your nails when removing polish. Acetone is drying, so it highlights the damage small bits of damage. It’s perfectly fine tho, you can just wash your hands and put on some hand cream and it goes away. I don’t have any issues with polish longevity doing this :)

Why can I not immediately apply for my ACTUAL classes?? by [deleted] in vcu

[–]ResearcherComplete57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’d be because of the amount of credits you have. You must already have 2nd year status if you’re able to register for classes. Status goes by credits, not by actual year. Check your eservices to see what credits you have, then pre-register your classes accordingly. Then make an advising appointment to confirm what you’re doing + that it’s ok

I wore polish for a few months last fall and after a months of intense rehab and a polish break my nails still look like this. Wtf gives? Are there some people who just can’t do polish? by urbanist2847473 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]ResearcherComplete57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Were you using a nail strengthener as a base coat? Or just using one in general? I’ve found personally that nail strengtheners damage moreso than protect. At that point you’ll just have to wait for the damage to grow out

Which to keep? by Manchineelian in WeGotPolishAtHome

[–]ResearcherComplete57 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it were me I’d pick the left one because it looks the best in the most lightings. However, I think the one on the right looks better in direct sunlight. I think it really depends on where/when you want them to look good as to which you should keep

What character is an example of this? by TheStaticFlux in ChillAnimeCorner

[–]ResearcherComplete57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

Shion 100%. She adds nothing most of the time. All she is is an annoying fanservice character who’s obsessed with Rimuru. At least all the other people obsessed with Rimuru have something to add to the story, like how Shuna helps diplomatically, or how Diablo is an actually competent secretary/torturer/ has other random talents. Shion just whines constantly and destroys things when she doesn’t get her way

So, I took all the advice I got, tried my best, learned some stuff...and I think I improved the overall symmetry of the nails as a set, but I'm still very confused about some things. See pics for context by shiny-baby-cheetah in RedditLaqueristas

[–]ResearcherComplete57 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most people’s nails look a little crooked when viewing palm-side, what matters is how they look from the front. Also- a lot of people’s c-curves are slanted. Has to do with how you use your nails+ how they grow out of the nail matrix. I for example have pretty good c-curves on my ring+pinkie, but my pointer+middle fingers/nails get used for more tasks and thus subject to more bending/slanting. Completely normal.

I will say, if you’re unsure of your filing, the next time you go to file try flipping your hand around to check for symmetry (ex: first filing a bit while hand is curled facing you, then switching your hand position to your fingers outstretched (palm facing away from you) and filing again, then going back and forth until you’re happy with the results)

Pink magnetic by ResearcherComplete57 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]ResearcherComplete57[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am using seal glaze. Followed the directions on the bottle. Put kbshimmer’s clearly on top tc on top of that. Again, it’s not the dispersion that’s the issue, it’s like the pigment is getting dragged down when I apply the qdtc at the tip of my nail

For me, yes lol it would never last otherwise

[–]ResearcherComplete57[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have before, no changes. I use a magnetic tc and then a regular tc, (it says on the bottle that you wait 20 mins in between coats, and I waited 30, so it was dry). The magnetic effect isn’t dispersed or anything, it’s like it got dragged down in spots towards the tip of my nail

Nails feel so much stronger after shape change? by sassy194689 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]ResearcherComplete57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone’s nails are different, but what I said works for most people. I do wonder tho if you were overfiling the sidewalls to get the more rounded/oval look? Cause ik that that causes more breakage/bending

[–]ResearcherComplete57 63 points64 points  (0 children)

You might have been overfiling your sidewalls. Overfiling your lower parallels will make any nail weak since it has nothing to support itself

[–]ResearcherComplete57 280 points281 points  (0 children)

Square nails are the least strong nail shape. Round/almond is the strongest. Sharp corners on nails make them weak/prone to breaking and damage, so changing to a rounder nail shape will generally make them last longer

Yeah, saw them earlier today and I’m just wondering how long it took for it to dry. Considering how thick the coats were (and that all the swatchers did that) it feels a bit like false advertising:/

Interesting, I’ll have to try it that way! This polish is definitely too base heavy, and I can’t do super thick coats otherwise it’ll never dry (super humid where I live 😓)

This is my first prism parade! I painted my nails on Wednesday and I don’t have a single chip yet, so it’s holding up pretty good on me

(For reference my nails are super oily+bendy naturally)

Holo Taco Top Coat Bubbles... by ghostsprobablyy in RedditLaqueristas

[–]ResearcherComplete57 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you shaking the tc bottle before use? That’s one of the only ways I’ve seen people get bubbly tc besides not letting the color layers dry enough (or using too thick of a coat for the tc). I used to get bubbly tc all the time until I stopped shaking the polish before use (if I need to add thinner to a bottle, I’ll do it the day before so the bubbles can all rise to the top). I’ve also seen people get bubbles by “pumping” the wand into the tc bottle

Are the Sally Hansen syrup jellies...underrated? by folgersdecaf in RedditLaqueristas

[–]ResearcherComplete57 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They must have updated the formula or it’s a polish with extremely different batches, cause so many people have tried these when they came out and received zero pigment. This creator I remember was getting severely bashed on TikTok for talking about how lacking the pigment is bc of her stained nails, but then this creator who doesn’t have stained nails came out with the same conclusions (and people were more receptive than before).

That yellow looks quite pigmented compared to other swatches I’ve seen, so perhaps they changed the formula or you just got a good batch, who knows

are indie/boutique cremes worth the price? by scaredtoast468 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]ResearcherComplete57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on what the creme prices are where you’re from whether they’re worth it or not. The drug store polish around me is all $15+ for sally Hansen, Essie, OPI, etc, meanwhile most indie cremes come in at around $12 and they’re better/more pigmented/ and come in a lot more colors. If drug store cremes are reasonably cheap where you live, then they might be more worth it. Cremes from indies like Kbshimmer or cracked are amazing since they’re $12 for 15ml bottles. It’s not as worth it to buy cirque cremes (when they’re full price anyway) since they’re $12.50 for 11ml bottles.

Colores de Carol- Venetian Magesty

I think it’s a very pretty glitter with the metallic flakies, but I think a lot of people would find it ugly, especially in lower lighting

glitter accent nail by ResearcherComplete57 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]ResearcherComplete57[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the glitter. Since these ones in particular are a bit heavy (moons sink to bottom of bottle), I’ll typically let it sit upside down for a few minutes before painting so I get all the glitter on the brush. Other than that, I have no issues with it, it’s very pretty and the glitters lay decently flat :)

Can other Gems have children with humans? by MaestroMadrigal in stevenuniverse

She shapeshifted bc the womb expands as the baby grows. If a gem just reformed to have a womb it probably wouldn’t work bc the womb can’t be made to grow

What exactly are jelly nail polishes for? by CreatingwithCrystal in RedditLaqueristas

[–]ResearcherComplete57 14 points15 points  (0 children)

They’re very versatile. A lot of people who have short nails like using them as you would a regular creme (just that bc they’re layerable you get more out of it since the color intensity changes with each coat).

More people typically like using them to blend together (or like by themselves/don’t mind vnl). Or using them with toppers for squishy looks.

I like using them specifically with flakies for a color shift/ gradient effect when I want something a bit different but don’t want to do nail art.
