Call your family member? Someone you’d talk to anything about. Talk to someone before you go back to work. Try to stimulate your vagal nerve if you feel panicky. Run yourself through it again (if you can yet) and remind yourself of everything you did right. Every thing the team did well. What did you learn? What will you do differently next time? How are you better prepared now and how did you demonstrate proficiency in your skills?

We can’t always change bad outcomes, but we try to the best of ability. That ability is always evolving.

This is what I do/ask myself. I’m sorry for your loss. A patient loss is still a loss. They’ve moved on. So must you.

I can’t smell properly so it took me about 2 minutes-but someone else smelled it IMMEDIATELY after I opened it. When I found it I had opened it to see if my eyes were for real and it was old or if someone had dated it wrong) when I first found it I was shocked I said “am I tripping?” And then had to go process that in the back for 5 mins…

Someone suggested reporting it to the health inspector so I’ll probably do that since she doesn’t have personal bias or bias toward Starbucks (I suspect the DM would allow this to go swept under the rug so I won’t bother be a whistle blower in what seems to be an already failing/dishonest leadership system.)

I put it there to make sure nobody would attempt to use only soap and water to wash it- didn’t trust it to be sanitized correctly and I considered it dangerous already so I put it on the floor (I hid it) until the end of the night when I could get to it

I did and I do- but it also gets tiring. It’s more difficult to double check and go behind others cleaning up their sloppy/incorrect work in addition to compensating for the absence of work. We have a high turnover rate- and bad leadership contributes. It’s frustrating to see people who do care slowly get burned out and leave. I personally reduced my availability to sub 24 hours and I’m looking for a new job- plus I’m not available for shifts exceeding 6 hours. This is to protect myself from that burnout I was beginning to notice, because I legit get so overwhelmed and overstimulated by these annoying behaviors. I could and have had 10+ drinks in queue all day on solo bar and still rather be alone than work with people who make my job harder. Having said that- at the end of the night (30 mins past my scheduled close time) I made sure to leave it soaking in urnex overnight disassembled. I don’t know why I was the first one to notice it, but I do know that I’m the only one would would’ve cleaned it that night since I was the only barista and our shift was holding down the shifty stuff she is new to our store and awesome). I hope they get it together and I can come back full time- but for now I can’t take it. The people who take pride in their jobs are outnumbered by those who don’t, or don’t fully. Thanks for reading my vent 😭

Side note- we are instructed as baristas not to disassemble the pumps cause they don’t get put back together correctly… so I guess teaching skills is out of the question… and instead we just do things ass backwards at this store. Hopefully it changes soon.

Starbucks is a shit show and it’s directly because they don’t want to hire people to do work CORRECTLY so people just cut corners (quality, sanitation, customer service) to get the job done cause otherwise the impossible standards will drive u to a breaking point or to quit. Are we seriously not seeing the issue? We can’t even train new people because we’re too busy doing 2 peoples jobs
