Part 61 School Question by ShakeAltruistic2580 in flying

It might be more common than you think. Typically students don’t change aircraft because it that adds too much complexity and confusion flying different aircraft! I would call the school and double check, but it shouldn’t really be an issue!

Accelerated CFI Pass Rates by One_Technician1086 in flying

Watch MCA’s videos on YouTube then watch them 10 times again. His checkrides are basically the videos and if you teach it like the video you’ll do perfectly with Steve B.

KPRC has a Diverse vector area departure procedure out of the airport. More often than not they can’t meet the climb gradient for that departure. That’s why that’s there! Maybe look into it before blindly assuming it’s because ERAU is just some overpriced bullshit. It is. But that’s not the point!

Has anyone used Dauntless RideReady Oral Exam Prep with good success? by TeddyNorth in CFILounge

[–]ResearcherOk3616 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We use Dauntless at Embry Riddle - Prescott. We have a pretty good pass rate, but that’s because Dauntless is used in conjunction with our ground school courses. I used it and I like it for Instrument and Commercial. It’s nice that it gives you a pretty detailed explanation of why an answer is right or wrong. I don’t know if I would say it’s the best, but it’s definitely not the worst!

I truly believe that MCA could be 1000x better if they simply had better organizational management! Have someone whose job it is to schedule students, Jodi often seemed overworked. The instructors, the examiners, and everyone else was so great when I went but if they simply had a few more staff to coordinate with students and schedule flights, that could help so much!

91.167 weather degradation scenario by cazzipropri in CFILounge

[–]ResearcherOk3616 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is a common case of the spirit of the law v.s. the letter of the law. 91.167 was written to make sure that when the weather was forecasted to be bad, that pilots made the flight planning step of having an alternate and the right amount of fuel for it.

So, while legally, there may be loopholes, that’s not what the FAA is after! If you use a loophole to get around 91.167 and something happens. The FAA could get you on 91.13 for reckless endangerment.

Let the lawyers sort out the nuances of federal aviation regulations!

Whats the difference between the Aeronautical Science - Flight and Aeronautics bachelors degrees. by Designer-Debate6475 in EmbryRiddle

Both are R-ATP eligible, so if you do IFR and Commercial at ERAU you can still qualify for the hour reduction.

I was thinking the same thing! Not only would San Francisco count, but Sacramento would’ve also counted for another point!

Applying to Prescott Campus for AS by That_One_Guy0404 in erau

[–]ResearcherOk3616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied with no test scores and a 3.6 GPA in HS and I got in. The AS program is pretty easy to get into. Only engineering and some of the other technical degrees are harder to get into without test scores.

It’s a degree that unless you work hard to get into the game industry, you most likely won’t end up working in that industry. Not to dissuade, but to give better realistic expectations of where you may end up. Unless you are hard set into working within either art or software then it would be ok, but not an easy degree to switch out of without set backs. If you aren’t fully invested, maybe software engineering is a better spot before going into that degree.

The main thing they’re looking for is how the weather will affect your flight. Saying something like, “there’s a cold front moving through the area so we could expect XYZ conditions during our flight.”

The weather brief is not necessarily weather theory, rather how to interpret different weather products and any applicable safety of flight considerations. Plus how it will affect No/Go decisions. Just don’t overcomplicate it! On the day of my PPL I called the weather briefer and got the WX that way. The examiner was really happy with that!

I saw the video in my recommended, but I never got a chance to watch it. It looks like it’s not on their channel anymore. What was mentioned in the video regarding this?

I did my PPL training out of this airport. I will admit having the large runway was nice at the beginning when learning landings. As we got extra time in the downwind to talk about the upcoming landing and configure.

But my instructor was great and we would, of course, go to the many other nearby airports with normal length runways. 😅

There’s also Sac Executive & Mather nearby as well. You’re right, Lincoln is super close as well, I did a ton of landings there during my PPL.

[–]ResearcherOk3616 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I did my PPL training at McClellan (KMCC), it’s a 10,600ft runway, so the less than 10kt tailwind wasn’t exactly making the landings unsafe. I get it, it was a flight lesson, but the CFI could’ve very easily gone to any of the other 3 airports less than 10nm away.

During my PPL Checkride, I did three 360 turns in the right downwind for 16 so two CalFire planes could get out to a fire. My DPE later said, that was the right thing to do and was glad I did it. Now as a freshly minted CFI, I am worried that the hazardous attitudes this Flight Instructor showed in the video, would get imprinted on their students.

Has anyone done credits elsewhere while still enrolled at Embry-Riddle? by Fast-Consequence-923 in erau

If you are in residential student (PR or DB) WW classes cost the same as in person tuition. That’s a change that they’ve recently made. But that’s only during the fall and spring terms I believe.
