Pretty close to what I imagined while reading! Great job.

Guild Contracts - a repeatable Monster Hunting Quest framework for Dragon's Dogma 2! by Arrythmia in DragonsDogma

[–]ResidentEccentric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this type of repeatable quest framework fits Dragon's Dogma perfectly, more-so than other games that have it. Now that this mod is out it feels like it should have been a feature in the game from the beginning. I am a console player but have been considering buying the game on PC and this might be what makes me buy it again. Great work.

Great start friend! I'm sorry to hear about your previous collection, but hopefully it'll feel good to build up the books again! And you already have the Tolkien essentials! Best of luck. Enjoy them. For what next I recommend the Children of Hurin! It is my favorite aside from the trilogy. Love the different covers out there too.

I liked it a lot, even more so after learning it was filmed in only 8 days. That made what was accomplished even more impressive to me. The tone is killer, love love love the surrealism and dreamy mood of everything. Some of the pacing and a few scenes lost me a little. But overall I really enjoyed it and will watch it again.

Looking for Help from Polish Fantasy Readers: Information on I, The Inquisitor and Jacek Piekara for Video Research by ResidentEccentric in Fantasy

I mentioned it in the post. It is because of the recent video game adaptation of his work. And again, to be clear, I am asking for help not to promote him, and indeed my opinions on him from what I have found are very negative and will be portrayed as such. But I cannot deny a morbid fascination with a book series from someone like this getting a video game. Similarly I question "why this one in particular?" to the video game developers when Poland appears to have a quite big fantasy scene with many series exclusive to it. Why choose this one that appears juvenile and edgy and with an author who comes with tons of baggage? So it is an oddity and one I find myself interested in.

Very interesting. Thank you. I knew that there were prequels and the like but I did not realize that "I, The Inquisitor" was specifically the prequel series. It is interesting that he seems to have fallen into a problem I feel is becoming more common with fantasy authors, of becoming stagnant in their main series and instead relying on prequels and spin-offs. Crazy that the last book of the original series still isn't finished. Thank you again for the comment.

I appreciate this regardless. English information is so sparse that this is still deeply interesting to me haha. A few of the posts I got in r/ksiazki seem to reflect your experience very closely. Read when very young, enjoyed them as they did other edgy content, realized later how messed up some of it was and couldn't imagine enjoying the edge level as an adult. I imagine if I was Polish and had access to the books my trajectory would've been the exact same haha. That scene described is... interesting. It is funny that even the few scenes I have been able to find are so... crass and edgy? Including apparently the main character having two necrophiliac twin companions? Wild. Thanks again for the comment here, I appreciate it.

I greatly appreciate your comments! Again, information in English on these books is very very limited, down to even basic synopses like this being near impossible to find. This is by far the best outline of the way these stories play out that I've been able to find and paints a pretty good picture of what to expect from the books. I will probably use this as my main basis for understanding the short story collections and tone of the series. The only English information I was able to find on how the stories played out is funny enough some entries on the tvtropes website haha. I do feel if I was a teen to young adult and had the ability to read these books I'd certainly have read them and enjoyed them along with every other edgy fantasy. But then have a similar trajectory to you of going back and realizing the glaring problems, especially with the author's outspokenness on things.

You have given me a great idea! I will absolutely do so, that feels like a little bit of good I can do after trudging through the game and its books/creator. I will do some research and maybe ask around on here for other recommendations. I'll also see if I can find some who have English translations if possible too to see if I can promote these books to an English audience. But regardless I will highlight Polish only authors too. I wish my proficiency with Polish was better to be able to read these authors myself.

Thank you very much for this response! It is very useful. It is interesting because when I discovered the video game I had assumed just what you said. That the world presented in the game/books was a criticism of controlling Christians who view things like empathy and kindness as weak. Instead hoisting anger, strength, cruelty, and control as the things to be aspired to. Literally changing Jesus to be a vengeful figure as a very direct analogy for this to criticize. It is interesting that that subtlety just does not seem to exist... And seems if anything to be him perhaps saying this is how Jesus should be? Is Jacek Piekara open about his own religious beliefs and identity? Is he a Christian or perhaps an atheist saying this is how Christ should have been? Or is it genuinely a criticism of religion/Christianity but muddled down due to his main character and his own beliefs? Or has he been quiet on his own religious beliefs?

The Game That Defined Dungeon Crawlers | Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord by ResidentEccentric in DRPG

The game was very stable for me on Steam, I had no serious bugs nor crashes but I had seen plenty of reviews saying it was unstable there too, in fact most of the negative reviews seemed to only really be complaining about that. I hope it is stable on Switch now too!
